Metro vs. Out State

Post by Bucky »

Have there been any thoughts of having a game with the top metro players vs the top out state players, similar to what high school football does in the summer?

Years ago Minnesota High School hockey had what was then the Maroon vs Gold series at the end of the high school season. That has morphed into the Ted Brill Great 8. I personally liked the Maroon and Gold as it was more metro vs outstate with the venues being one game in the north, one in the metro area. Not sure why it changed, possibly to include more than the 40 or so vs 8 sections worth of players. In this day and age of wanting to get more kids seen by scouts, I doubt it will go back to what it used to be.

It has been done but has since evolved into the Great 8, with each section being represented by 20 senior players.

From there a team is selected to participate in the Chicago Showcase, although I believe this is the last year for the Showcase.
