Is it just me, or has Grand Rapids and Cloquet taken out Elk River ever since they rejoined section 7AA...4 years back? 2? 4...?
To my recollection Elk River hasn't performed very well at the D.E.C.C. come playoff time.
With that being said, times change. People move on. I think the Elks have been given a fresh shot of life, and will do some damage not only on the way to state, but perhaps at state.
But they have a long way to go. This will be a hard fought battle, final score I don't think will be a difference more than a goal or two. In which team's favor? Time will tell... Whoever wants it more, that's what I say.

Traditionally the 1-v-4 (or 5, this year) game is first, so that sounds right.dulutheastfan wrote:East and Flake play at 12 and CEC and Elk river play at 2 according to prep hockey northEHSHack wrote:Karl, East-Flake is after Cloquet-ER. My prediction, Tree Killers 3 - Bambi's Relatives 1 or 2.
Indeed Elk River is 0-for-2 on Semifinal Saturday since they were moved back into the section. But that probably had more to do with the talent level than anything else. They did almost beat Cloquet 2 years ago, until someone found a floating Tyler Johnson on a pass.
Should be interesting, though...this'll be the first time in a long time (ever?) there's only 2 northern teams in the semis. It'll be interesting to see what the attendance is like, and which side the Cloquet fans who come early will join (though it looks as if the "fan alliance" won't be making an appearance this year...)

Other than East fans, I'd be shocked if anyone was pulling for the Hounds.karl(east) wrote:Traditionally the 1-v-4 (or 5, this year) game is first, so that sounds right.dulutheastfan wrote:East and Flake play at 12 and CEC and Elk river play at 2 according to prep hockey northEHSHack wrote:Karl, East-Flake is after Cloquet-ER. As for ER vs CEC, I'm predicting Elk River will roll in this one.

The Elks have always struggled at the DECC, this one even puts the big thurst on edge
especially if the Hounds have already won. Nevertheless, Sarsland chews his gum, sports the gator skin boots, and screams "body" as many times as humanly possible...
Elks 5-2

Goota go with the Elks
I was wrong about the CEC/GR score. Always a surprise, but GR really didn't bring much to the table this year. The depth a quality team like ER has will spell tough times for CEC.

CEC 3 - ER 1
I saw the Osseo / ER game and CEC plays the kind of "in your face" hockey that Osseo did. They finished their checks, pressured the "whole" sheet, crashed the net and made their shots count...not from the blue line like DE did (after the first 5 shots / 3 goals anyway).
Besides ER hasn't gotten to the final since the move to 7AA - can't handle the rockem/sockem, up north style!!!
I want to see a rematch of the DE / CEC final with the hounds winning...
I would love to see the dogs take it to CEC - revenge is best served hot!!!

Im taking Cloquet-3-------Elk River-2. I think Thompson is capable of doing it again and I am also thinking everyone in the DECC besides ER fans will be cheering for Cloquet including East fans, which will be a nice boost of motivation. I also think Esse knows what he's doing, gets the most out of his players, and will play the type of style that takes away seams, bodies after the play, and plays smart and tough. C-E-C needs to stay out of the box though, PK is kind of terrible! Also Cloquet is always notorious for being one of the best teams in the state at blocking shots. I will say Roy gets a goal or two, the kids got mad skills and is playing with heart now. Cloquet's first line will matchup well against ER's IMO. It will come down to what Cloquet's 2nd and 3rd lines will bring to the table.
And as a Cloquet fan I want East to beat Flake, and DE's fans will hopefully stay after and root for their rivals! Everyone wants to see a DE-CEC final the DECC would surely be a sight to see for that one!

As much as I think ER will win the game I think the Jacks will make it close. I don't know why Lee would want his score to be wrong however... Why would you want a CEC/ DE matchup. Yeah they have been horrible this year but they get a fire lit under each of their lumberjack butts for a playoff game against East. I wouldn't want to have East piss it away for a third straight year... I would much rather play the Elks in the Final.

Esse can do what he wants to get his players ready the elks have the legendary Tony Sarsland to get them ready. The elks can play physical even though they are undersized there speed will also be a factor for the jacksBigWorm wrote:Im taking Cloquet-3-------Elk River-2. Welcome to the 'bored'.
But you could have gone out on the limb a bit.

All it costs is a little crow eating if you are wrong.
