I'll admit CDH is the team I know the least about of the 8 at state. To that end, it would be very nice if someone who follows the team could give a nice description of strengths, weaknesses, and style of play. That'd allow me to get a better feel for this matchup.
That said, this is one of the two 1st-round opponents I was hoping East would draw. This by no means assures victory; it'll probably be a good game.

I think a lot of people are underestimating the ability of East. I don't think I seen a team this year, that pounds so many shots on goalies, and establishes such a relentless forecheck. Granted, East doesn't score a lot, but they are a force. The only thing stopping the Hounds from winning this game, is whether or not they will score on their opportunies, because they will probably outshot Cretin 2-1.
My score:
Hounds: 3
Cretin: 1
My score:
Hounds: 3
Cretin: 1

This was one of the two teams I was hoping East would draw as well. Although I don't have any idea how CDH plays, I did check to see common opponents:
DENFELD
CDH: W 5- 2 11/28
East: W 2-0 1/13
This was CDH's first game btw, and East did not play well this game, if I remember correctly.
BRECK
CDH: L 1 - 4 12/31
East: L 2 - 4 12/29
Two days apart, one more goal scored by East. I think East spent a considerable amount of time in the box this game.
FOREST LAKE
CDH: W 3 - 0 1/3, W 2 - 1 2/5
East: W 6 - 0 1/27, W 3 - 2 OT 2/28
Each team played FL twice this year, and East outshot FL handily in both their wins, although the second came during the section tournament. East scored 9 goals v FL, while CDH scored 5.
STILLWATER
CDH: T 4 - 4 1/8, W 2 - 1 2/7
East: W 7 - 2 2/14
This is interesting because CDH played Stillwater one week before East did. It looks as if East had a little less trouble with Stillwater.
WHITE BEAR LAKE
CDH: L 2 - 4 1/15, W 5 - 3 2/14
East: W 6 - 3 1/17
CDH lost to WBL two days before East beat WBL. This could have been because WBL was worn out from a hard fought win over CDH, or East just played better and beat them. Then again, CDH beat WBL a month later.
HASTINGS
CDH: W 10 - 3 12/18, W 8 - 3 1/29
East: W 8 - 1 2/17
Both teams seemed to be able to walk around Hastings this year.
So... if we throw out the Hastings games.
CDH is 5-2-1 vs the other five teams.
East is 5-1.
CDH played Stillwater and WBL twice, avenging an earlier tie and loss, the reason why they played 8 games vs the five teams, rather than just six.
The only team both teams lost to is Breck, other than that both CDH and East beat Denfeld, Forest Lake, Stillwater, and WBL.
I think this game will be a very interesting matchup.

Duluth East is the deeper team, but CDH is playing very well right now. They have good size, and have been getting solid goaltending. Alt is a stud on defense, and seems like he's back at 100%. It seems like both teams are playing at their best, but I'll give the edge to East. I think CDH will stuggle to get to the net against East's D.

-This years team has one main difference from last years team. Instead of just having one player (bohrer) score all their goals they have spread the scoring out pretty evenly between three lines.
1st line- led by senior forward Ben Mcclelan who had a 30+ point season. also Benny is coming off a game winning goal vs AV.
2nd line- Very solid offensive focused forwards. Relatively young kids with two sophomores and a junior. Expect to here about this lines scoring potential in the next couple years
3rd line- senior line led by Tommy Zimmerman who has a very dangerous shot. Other highlights include Mike Bangs who has strong scoring potential.
Defense- Old school defensive group. focus more on protecting goalie then scoring points. Alt is dangerous from anywhere on the ice.
Weaknesses
streaky play throughout the season. Big kids that can be beat by small forwards. Also a fairly young group with Zimmerman being the only player with state tourney experience.
