Wow. what a great weekend of girls hockey. Congrats to all the teams. I was able to watch most games. OMG, Park Rapids , Princeton and especially Centennial have very well balanced teams when it comes to depth. (not just one or two #'s that control the game or do everything for a team)
Every team had a great chance to win, all the games were close. A couple overtime games.... You love to see that in a state tourny. After watching the Championship game the score didn't do that game or Cent any justice. IMO the Red Machine's goalie by far was the best in the tourny. posted a shut out, but couldn't catch a break in the last game. (well maybe one post ringer

Give it to Proctor for pulling it out. Cent came back from 3 goals down after the 1st to tie it up. And really had Proctor gassed after the 2nd. No doubt here that without the ice resurface Cent would have won that game. That intermission gave Proctor's #12 time to rest and keep them going.
In the Princeton-OMG 3rd place game a Princeton player was boarded from behind.........Would like to send out prayers and say I hope all is well for her and Way to go Princeton for coming back and winning that game.
Would like to give my opinion on the post game celebration by the Proctor Rails.....(thats' why I quoted) In all my sport watching, youth, college, or pro. That was the most CLASSLESS act of sportsmanship I have every seen....(this is why there are penalties in other sports for things like this) While Cent was still on the Ice...... taken team Photos etc. Proctors girls skated down to the Cent end and celebrated behind them while pictures were being taken then proceeded to do a line dance....I was floored!

Congrats again to all the teams this weekend and thanks for giving the fans great girls hockey to watch.

Please! Hole in the Wall is obvious a centennial fan! What happened after the game was clearly a matter of perception! to the Proctor fans it was the girls celebrating the first state cahmpionship in anything! They had practiced that routine earlier in the weekend as a team building excercise and wanted to do it as a post game elebration IF THEY won! It was 12 year old girls that wanted to do it. Not a bunch of classless adults. No one schemed it as a way to try to embarrass the other team. Get over it! And to down play the win is sad as well. The final score was 6-3. It was not due to the refs, a bad call or just becasue #12 got to rest. Proctor was the better team! Period! They are state Cahmps, give them some credit!

One last thing Hole in the head............... Get your facts straight! The "U14 girl" you mentioned did not petition to play down! How foolish is that? She actually petitioned to play up, but was denied by Minnesota hockey. We didn't make the rules................... Just abided by them. Also, the post game celebration..................... A full thirty minutes after the game was over and fifteen minutes after the awards presentation. Not about rubbing anyones face in it.................just about little girls having some fun IMO.

I can not believe what some parents will write to make themselves feel better? This game is about the girls the U12B girls and not what some mom or dads perspective of the game! First of all I have no kids on either team and was there strictly as a spectator who happens to like watching good hockey games. I to watched great hockey this weekend and there were of close games and every team down at the state tournament in my book was a good team. In fairness to Proctor I did not feel the end game dance or whatever it was they were doing was to rub any noses, it was a team who was celebrating a state victory and having fun. Of course the other team is going to be upset that is part of the game. The comment about being a one or two team player sounds to me like a scorn parent who is not used to losing!!! Shame on you for making excuses and pointing fingers in a game that was played well by both teams. Sure I noticed #12 and # 6 and #10 and #3 with help by #14 and how about that goalie???? I also noticed your #17 and #15 and #18 and how about your goalie??? There was no one man team played in any of these games, just straight up good girls hockey!!! Thanks to Pequot Lakes for putting on a good show and to all teams great job and you all played well. Proctor hold your heads up high, as the old saying "give credit where credit is do" belongs to your girls!!!

I thought the Proctor fans were a bit too excited about a U12B game, but my opinion changed after finding out this is pretty much their entire girls youth program (is that right?) In the same situation I'd be freaking out too! The girls showed remarkable poise while carrying the hopes of so many.
Proctor was probably the best team our girls (EP Red) played all year. That includes Centennial and the Central Wisconsin team that beat both Proctor and EP in a Chaska tournament. Hopefully this season will inspire a lot of young girls to get involved and grow their program.
Thanks Pequot Lakes for hosting a wonderful tournament. Even though things didn't go as we had hoped (I was really looking forward to playing Princeton or Park Rapids), my family had a wonderful time. My daughter never understood why anyone would cry after a loss, but she cried after elimination on Saturday. "I don't want it to be over!" she moaned between sobs. Onward Minnesota Hockey! The best girls sport in the world.

Didn't the Proctor goalie post 2 shutouts on the weekend?IMO the Red Machine's goalie by far was the best in the tourny. posted a shut out, but couldn't catch a break in the last game. (well maybe one post ringer )
And if I heard the announcer correctly the shots on goal were Proctor 32 and Red 29 with no post ringers

The Proctor girls U12B made history in our little town. Not only was it the first girls team out of Proctor to make it to the State Tournament but it was the first Proctor team that won a State Championship in any sport.
This was a HUGE deal not only to the girls but the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends who ALL showed up to support our girls and our community. I could not be a prouder parent. This weekend will be remembered forever by these girls. Thank you to Park Rapids and Pequot Lakes for all your support. I will never forget this and neither will my daughter. Way to go Rails, STATE CHAMPS!!!
p.s Hole in the wall. It is called the cha cha slide. You should try it sometime, totally fun!!!

reply to hole in the head
You want to talk about classless acts of sportsmanship hole in the head? Nice job by your young ladies warming up in front of the proctor locker room chanting and yelling, banging on the proctor door. Cent. act of intimidation backed fired. You see what happens when the green and white gets mad. Thank you for the motivation to have our girls get fired up and beat the red army(not that they needed any more). Best goalie in the tourny?? The Junior Mirage goaltender had two shut outs. Have a nice summer.

One other note of classlessness! A two handed cross check to the back of #10's head knocking her out of the second period. That was delivered by a Centennial player to a Proctor girl. You must have missed that one? Thankfully the Proctor girl was able to play after being checked out in the ambulance. Maybe that had more to do with Centennial's little run in the second period than #12 being tired.
In regards to being excited? 14 girls in the entire program. 4 of which are 10U and one other girls had never skated until this year. Proctor didn't have 60 girls to choose from. Excited? Hell yeah!
Thanks for the kind words Eden Prairie......... you guys were classy as well!

That should read EP Black, not Red. Let's keep this mum. My daughter would kill me if it got out!luckyDad wrote: Proctor was probably the best team our girls (EP Red) played all year. Wow...Well, my comments are just that....mine. As yours are yours. I was greatful to have the oppurtunity to watch an awsome weekend of Minnesota girls youth hockey with an intersest in what some of the best programs in the state would bring.
Forums like this are great to follow, it is a good way to see where to go to watch the up and coming prospects play.
I have no interest in a specific team, Just the interest in what I was going to see from the top 8 teams in probably the hardest age level to accomplish what the girls of these teams did this weekend. I have no idea of what went on behind the sceens??...
I have ref'd and play the game.....you heard no comments from me about officiating....call's were missed on both sides in this game as in the other games. In the Cent-Proc game I thought the ref's let them play. An injury occured that's unfortunate....
My comment on the goaltending is what I saw through the whole weekend. Quality of shots, number of shot, and quality of saves....Wow in terms of shots for this game 30-27 or something like that....
This game specifically should have been a 5-0 game in Proctors favor....Proctors quality of shots over Cent were better. I play the position (hence "Holeinthewall"
)so, I pay more attention to those things....Cent three goals all went in because of "mouse trapping".... trying to trap a puck coming at you at 20-50mph without using yout stick to stop the puck first....... Stop the puck first then to protect and/or cover. A common thing in youth goaltending and a sign of who has coached that habit away from their goalie.
Proctors goals were from a great screen that Cent goalie never saw, a hard shot from #12 that got through, and the other three were from short rebounds that were put in after great saves on quality shots. Good job to both goaltenders in the final game and to Congrats to Proctors for hanging on.
All these teams had a great chance to win. That's what the State Tourny is about right?
If the post game dance was planned and practiced then some thought and respect should have been given to the team that just placed 2nd in the state out of about 150 teams. Weather it was Lakeville, OMG, Princeton, EP, Red Wing Cent, Park Rapids, or Proctor. All are great programs. A lot of folks wearing different colors that attended were shocked at what they saw while the other team was on the ice. In most games or tournies teams are held from the other teams side of the ice until the one end is cleared....ref's are instructed to do that.
In regards to #12....anyone who knows the game can see she is a great hockey player, with great hands and ice vision. You can see that she has played at a higher level. I was surprised to see her at 12b, she could stand out on a 14a team. I had heard the rumor of her age before at an earlier tourny and then again at a local establishment this weekend.
What I was also refering to was depth in a team....not just one or two numbers... You see a lot of programs that have a wide skill range and they are able to win because of the 2-3 stand outs.
Teams like Park Rapids, OMG, and Cent have good depth and can get scoring from a variety of players on any line againt other teams top lines.
Wasn't trying to take anything away from what Proctor accomplished this weekend everyone knows who has the quality progams, boys and girls.
Congrates to all.
Good luck in spring hockey.
Can't wait to see what and who next year will bring.

Wow is right Hole in the head. Speaking of classless, pretty classy slamming the Proctor goalie by not having quality shots. Thanks for the pointers on "How to stop a puck". Hanging on, Nice. Let me give you something you can use as the excuse you are looking for as to why things did not go as planned: It comes down to the #3, not Proctors #3 just 3.
Proctor 3 goals 1st period.
Cent 3 goals 2nd period.
Proctor 3 goals 3rd period.
#3 from Proctor scored.
#6 from Proctor scored. (that is 3x2).
#9 from Proctor scored. (that is 3x3). By the way, this was the 4th goal of the game and the game winner.
#12 from Proctor scored. (that is 3x4). Getting the picture.
Proctor 3 penalties.
Cent 3 penalties.
Proctor 32 shots on goal.
Cent 29 shots on goal. (difference of 3)
Proctor 3 loses on year.
Cent 3 loses on year.
Getting the bigger picture. Take nothing from either team, let alone any girl in this entire tournament. But let me ask, isn't there a player that stands out in every State tournament?
One last thing, the last time a team was referred to as "the red army", what happened? Don't you believe in MIRACLES??????????
Great weekend played by all!! Just happy to be a part of it all. Amazed at all the analizing of the championship game. That is what it is a game! Yes, the refs didn't call much. Yes, the after game celebration was a bit inappropriate... but all said- Proctor and Centennial gave eachother a great game. Would the outcome be the same on another given Sunday? Maybe not. One girl does not make a team, but can sure help- as #12 displayed. She is a talented U12 player. With that said- Centennial was missing one of their top scoring wings the entire tournament, not just a period, and they still did great. Could they have won the whole thing if they had her??? Who knows and at this point, it doesn't matter. Again- great game by all teams!! Hope to be there next year...

Congratulations to Proctor and Park Rapids for their strong showings at the 12U B level. The thing I don't understand is how towns can play at a B level when they do not have an A team. I think MAHA should change their rules on this. I understand some programs are not as far along and they feel it is more fair to them to get to play at the B level, but how is that fair to teams that are true B teams. Besides Proctor and Park Rapids, were there any other A teams at the B tournament?
final word on the cha cha slide
I would like to comment on the Junior Mirage post game celebration. I can say with 100% certainty the girls did not intend to disrespect Centennial. I asked my daughter why did you go to the Centennial side of the rink. She said the team wanted a picture under the score board. Then unprovoked she said the music started and the girls were already lined up for a picture so they just started to do the dance. The girls worked on this dance the week before the state tournament and also during the long down time at the hotel. It was promised to the girls if they won the state tournament they could do the cha cha slide, which they did 20-25 minutes after they game. As far as the girls being in the centennial pictures, that was a unfortunate case of wrong place wrong time. The girls were doing their victory lap with the trophy and the lap ended under the score board were they wanted to get their picture taken. Trust me when I say these girls are a CLASS act. The Proctor Hockey Association is a class act. It saddens me to have to defend such a wonderful bunch of girls to a few overly emotional parents/coaches wife. I would not of wanted to be in Centennial's shoes this year, with that big bulls eye on their back. A bulls eye Proctor hit right in the middle. Congratulations to all teams and thank you Pequot Lakes. You were a great host.

Nice try Green and White fan! True "B" team? What is the definition? Proctor has 14 kids playing girls hockey. Period. Park Rapids is not much different! Let it go! So the metro didn't win it this year and now we should change all the rules? How do you make it "fair"? Proctor has 4 10U kids and one other girl that never skated before. Is it fair to make them play "A" hockey. You must be talking with Shelly from the "Big Red"!Green and White Fan wrote:Congratulations to Proctor and Park Rapids for their strong showings at the 12U B level. I am not from the metro, but I am from a town that has a true "B" team. A true "B" team in my opinion is team that has an "A" team in their association also. Part of it is sour grapes, as it was disappointing for our "B" team girls to play good at regional but come up just short, when they were the only real "B" team there and every other team was the only one from their association. I realize everyone can't go to state, but why punish true B teams, by making them play A teams, I don't care if they do only have 14 players in their town!

Uh yeah! Princeton and Red Wing.Green and White Fan wrote:Besides Proctor and Park Rapids, were there any other A teams at the B tournament?
Centennial Red was rated #1 in the state nearly all season for a reason. Every girl on that team was either skilled or highly skilled. It's a product of having a football stadium full of girls to choose from along with a sound hockey program and the capital to sustain it. No one in the state has been hit harder finacially in the last 15 to 20 years than the north shore and range teams with the downward spiral of taconite production and rail usage. Loss of jobs means loss of people and loss of financial support.
The Northern teams can't win. When they win they should be playing a different class and when they lose they are called hillbillies. Go figure. Do you honestly expect teams like Fergus Falls (No "A" team) this year competing at an "A" level with 7 skaters and a goalie. They had a couple of players that could play at the "A" level and did very well this season. Couple more wins and somone will start saying they should be playing "A". Wouldn't want to step on the toes of the "true B's" or get too close to compete. Absolutely rediculous!
PS: With considered by many to be the best goalie in the state and a raft of skilled to highly skilled players like the Reds had this year, why wasn't that team not playing "A" hockey. From what's been stated in past posts, isn't it all about getting better at the 12U level instead of breezing through the competition with 26+ shutouts - or is it all about the wins?
