Air Force Academy Recruits
The Air Force Academy has landed 3 local players. My peers tell me that all of these players are headed to Juniors for a year or 2, but the following players have committed:
Ben Persian - Orono
Tom Fallen - Armstrong
Joe Reykamp - Breck
Good luck. It was fun watching you in high school.

Re: Air Force Academy Recruits
Heisenberg reports that Fallen and Rehkamp have both committed, but nothing about Persian. Is he missing it, is it news, or is this false information??March3333Madness wrote:The Air Force Academy has landed 3 local players. What does the Air Force Academy look for in high school students?
What do i need to do in high school to have a good chance of getting accepted in to the Air Force?

Go check out their web site. The academy has very high academic standards, and high athletic standards as well. The biggest hurdle that they have to overcome in recruitment is that attending the academy is more than 4 years of school. After graduation you have a 5 year committment to the Air Force (10 if you become a pilot). If a kid thinks he might play pro hockey, then AFA is not the place to attend. If one is looking for a career, then if you can get it, it's a great place.sarapova wrote:What does the Air Force Academy look for in high school students?

From what I understand. Air Force would love to have an NHL hockey player. If a Cadet wants to leave the Academy after 2 years that is an option with no furthur obligation. The other option is that if a player is good enough and there is high level opportunities presented to him the Academy will do everything in their power to station the cadet close to a team that is interested in him after his 4 years of schooling and will accomadate his schedule as long as he fulfills basic requirements. Two years after leaving the Academy if an opportunity is there to sign an NHL or a solid AHL contract the Cadet can apply for early dismissal. If the early dismissal is granted the Cadet will be aksed to be a spokesman for the Academy in the future.

Air Force Hockey Recruits
It is my understanding that the AFA coaching staff has also tendered an offer to a defenseman from Duluth East, McLean. Sorry, I don't know his first name. They spent a lot of time speaking with his family following the Great 8.

Alex McLean, nice kid, good player congrats.
But here's the other side of an AFA commitment. They want you to play JRs for 2 yrs, to test your dedication and maturity. It is also another way for these players to be rostered on a Jr team forsure, not that any of them would have a problem making one of these teams. They get a spot, Owatonna is like AFA minor league affiliate.
Good Luck to all of the boys, hope they represent our country well.

Duluth East's McLean added to Air Force Academy List
Based on separate thread, it appears the Air Force Academy has added another recruit, Duluth East's Alex McLean. Presumably, this is for the 2010-11 season after a year in Junior Hockey.
