I agree that they should be a good team, but the move to the new section will make for a tough road to state! They haven't shown they can beat Hopkins (who look to have a few good transfers), and BSM will be tough to beat as well. Should be one of the tougher sections in the state!

I don't know that the 14s really set the stage for HS success, with play ups many of the top 14s don't play in U14. I don't know how many of those girls will make an impact right away this year.

I think I would look more towards your goalie hitting her stride in her 3rd year of HS hockey and Ramsey possibly turning into an elite player (I have not seen how she is doing this summer) but she had a few things to work on from what I saw last year, could be Miss Hockey if she gets it all together. Should be a barn burner at Parade this year.

Not sure "transfer" is the right word as a transfer, after 9th grade, would have to sit a season. Are you talking about incoming new, open enrolled, 9th graders?

There are many exceptions to the transfer rules. It is my understanding that one girl is a junior, one is a sophomore and one is a freshman. I don't know if they will have to sit or not.

There are other girls (sophomore and above) that are rumored to be moving but since the talk is just rumors I don't think its appropriate to name names. I think that MSHSL might have some interesting decisions to make regarding the transfer rules and the exceptions this year. IMO whichever way MSHSL decides (i.e. too liberal of an interpretation or too conservative of an application), the decisions will have quite an effect in the future.

What by offering a good program at a good school? Before anyone from Tonka throws that stone they should check the lineage of the the boys and girls starting goalies for the last two and next two seasons. Both are HYHA, so is BSM girls I believe. We moved to the Hopkins district a few years ago because after touring schools on the west side we really liked the principles we met at the Elem, Jr High, and High School here. After we got here we discovered we liked the HYHA and HS coaches a great dealas well. We have had some great athletes come to Hopkins but we also have held our own in one of the strongest conferences in the state in almost every sport with talent that came up in our youth programs.

Exactly........good athletes gravitate to good programs, i.e., if you are a good wrestler you want to go to Apple Valley....that's where the exposure is.

yep, it is all fun and games until some one moves in and takes your spot I think I am moving my kids but not sure which school I want to disrupt yet.

Sorry for the tangent on the skippers thread but what exactly does "your spot" mean. When they hold tryouts and a ninth grader beats out a senior for varsity, did they take "their spot" or "there spot". If the player qualifies under MHSL rules to try out than all the spots are open until someone makes it. If a player/parent thinks they are anointed to varsity by making the U12A team then there is a whole other problem. They have a spot and a letter when they get it by earning it tryouts (most likely in the months before tryouts).

Not making varsity has sucked since they created the first sweater or jacket. Trust me I know it did 20 years ago. My daughter has varsity in her sights in a couple sports and is really working for it. She know there are no guarantees and I think she would play JV as a senior if that is how it shakes out. Luckily for me the coaches both have grades on top so she is pushed to the honor roll as well.
