Who will replace Mike Hastings?
Who will replace Mike Hastings as assistant coach? Grant P has been named interim, but will they remove that tag? Do they go with an Alum this time around or just the best candidate? Let's hear your thoughts...

If they don't bring in Scott Bell, then either Hamline has him tied to a great contract, or they (UM) are smoking dope...glovesareoff wrote:Who will replace Mike Hastings as assistant coach? I am sure they do not have him tied in anything close to the contract he would make as an assistant at the U. He is not making close to that at Hamline.Blue&Gold wrote:If they don't bring in Scott Bell, then either Hamline has him tied to a great contract, or they (UM) are smoking dope...glovesareoff wrote:Who will replace Mike Hastings as assistant coach? He would be a great choice and I hope Don has talked to him and they can get this done. He has turned the Hamline program in to a great program in his time there and he would be a great asset to the U.

My personal opinion is mixed. More positive than negative but I would have liked to have seen him gain some experience before being hired here.glovesareoff wrote:From the rumor mill: It will be announced in the near future that Grant P will be named assistant coach of the Gophers. Congrats and Good Luck to him... Any thoughts?
On one hand, there is no doubt he has a lot of passion for the program and he certainly carries respect given he was a three time captain and was a major part of two national title teams. He would be able to relate to the players quite a bit and I am sure he would be very good at developing relationships with players and recruits.
At the same time, he doesn’t have coaching experience since he has been playing in the AHL since he left school... so it is a bit of an unknown what he may bring to the table in terms of teaching the game.
I do believe he will make for a great coach at some point. Whether it is now or later remains to be seen.
