Schattuck hires Dan Koch

Post by JSR »

Schattuck St. Mary's has hired Dan Koch as it's new girls varsity head coach. Apparently Schattuck is serious abotu making their girls program as well known and respected as it's boys program. For those who do not know Koch was Mark Johnson's top assistant and co-head coach for the reigning national champion University of Wisconsin Women's hockey team. Koch is lrgely credited for being a master recruiter at UW and an extremely intelligent coach. On a side note, I know him and he is a really nice guy, very personable, very professional. He has two sons, both of whom will enroll at Schattuck and attend school and his wife will be emplyed by Schattuck as well. We'll miss Dan down herein Badgerland, you folks up there just got one heck of a coach.

As an old Bager I would second the comments here....Dan is very sincere man who is a great step up for Shattuck. I have gotten to know him over the past two years and he will be able to bring many things to SSM. He in many ways identified and recrutied the National players to Wisconsin and developed the D at Wisconsin - Mark Johnson has great insights and is a marvelous coach that Dan had a chance to work with for 7 years. The SSM U16 program has been evolving over the past few years and Dan will take it to the next level. He will be able to speak first had to the advantages of a Hockey Academy Program for a player who wants to play in a top D1 program or on a National Team. He is well respected by other college programs and will help SSM kids be placed across college hockey.

Judging by SSM's success in national tourneys and the number of D1 players to come out of SSM, I would say the girls program is as well respected as the boys program.
