Chris McAlpine to Coach '96 AAA Boys' Team
I don't have a '96 athlete, but I came across this interesting tidbit while searching different hockey web sites:

Nice try, Manchild. But, if you check the history button for my posts, you'll see that my son is a '98, not a '96. By the way, my name is not Terry.
The point of my post is that Chris McAlpine, a guy many of us respect as a player and a person, agreed to coach a north suburban '96 AAA team. That's good news for the young '96 lads in the northern suburbs.

Wasn't Chris McAlpine the player who accepted money under the table (literally) from Doug Woog when he was a player for the Gophers???hockey_is_a_choice wrote:

Now, Muck, you're usually a factual guy, so your post is disappointing. Chris didn't accept any money under the table. Wooger hid the money in a hat.
Just the facts: In 1994, during Chris' final quarter at the U, Woog and other U officials thought Chris was going to go pro and leave school after the hockey season so they reallocated his scholarship funds to others. When Chris elected to stay in school, he needed $500 to pay his final tuition bill, but, since the athletic department had used Chris' scholarship dollars for other needs, Woog was in a bind.
In a story out of the "no good deed goes unpunished" column, Wooger obtained $500 from another source, put the cash in a hat, and invited Chris to come to his office. When Chris arrived at the Wooger's office, Woog pointed to the hat, which contained the money. Chris took the $500 and paid his tuition bill.
In 1996, after the events were made public, the U suspended Woog without pay for one week and the U hockey team lost one of its scholarships. No disciplinary action of any kind was taken against Chris.

sorry i didn't click on the link, but isn't this then a new team? If so how much can one coach do in a 96' AAA teams final year? After next year they will be doing high school, selects, and elite 1 & 2 if fortunate enough.
I guess why not give him a 98' or something, or was the 96' already a elite team?

I thought the hat was under a table (or his desk) or something...anyways, the fact is that he DID accept it and it was a violation, albeit a minor one.hockey_is_a_choice wrote:Now, Muck, you're usually a factual guy, so your post is disappointing. Chris McAlpine.... he is a agent for professional hockey players, IMO he uses as many resources as possible to further his business as an agent.
And yes Terry did it to give his 96 a good look and input about his ability and if grows and pans out a agent to boot; kudos to Terry, why hate the player, hate the game.
Rumor has it the one of the boys was at a try out and got cut but ended up on a roster anyway after much lobbying by dad. Its not what you know, its who you know.
Good luck 96 STE!
