Is that Minneapolis-Park Storm? Can you add Mpls-Park if that's the case?

Just curious, are the number of 12UA teams down this year? How about overall numbers?

I believe they are up. Did you notice that D6 merged with D3. I am not sure as to the reason.
As to general numbers I can see an increase in teams but in a few districts I am seeing a decrease at the lower age levels. 1 association only has 10 girls at the U8 levels. It is Centennial. Normaly very solid on numbers.

Wow, that's incredible. They obviously took their eye off recruiting which is the most important job at any association that hopes to have a successful future. Either the ecomony is a big issue or they scared them away. That spells future doom at 10, 12, 14 and high school. An association that "size" should have at least 4 teams at 8U or about 60-70 girls. Their Web site shows 3 teams at 10, 2 at 12 and 3 at 14. Are you sure about that 8U number?

Scary numbers

Post by rj04 »

Yes I am sure. I have spoken with there girls director and it seems there is a lack of motivation when it comes to recruitment. There board seems to think that they don't have to invest in the future and that they are CENTENNIAL kids will just flock to the association.

Over. The girls Director worked himself right out of a job. There is no function more important than recruiting in any association. Any parent of a 12U or 14U will tell you, "if only we had started with 20 more girls when they were Mites."

In chatting with my cousin who has a son in the Centennial association and asking about the 8U, he told me they have one 8u team of 17 girls and also a number of others that are skating in the mite program and also a few moved up to play 10U. He also said that do to the times some are choosing not to play because of the cost.
I also saw some numbers on the size of a few associations and using last years numbers Centennial and Blaine combined are still smaller than Edina by 2 but a tad larger than Wayzata by about 26 players.
Centennial while being the largest association in District 10 would be third in size in Districts 2 and 3, 4th in 6 and tied for 2nd with Woodbury in District 8.
My cousin also said he had heard some other associations had fewer numbers this year because of the a number of job loses.

Speaking of Centennial my sources say they pulled out of the U12A showcase scrimmage in Stillwater. They say Blaine is in for Centennial. Does that confuse anyone else?

greybeard is correct

Post by redarmydad »

As far as the Centennial program is concerned we are doing just fine. The numbers have gone down a bit but are as greybeard says. Times are tuff all around and everyone is getting hit hard. As far as the scrimmages in Stillwater are concerned the entire thing is cancelled. I say again the entire thing is cancelled!

I apologize for my mistake on the numbers. They must have had some girls sign up a little later then my conversation with the girls coordinator. Goodluck everyone.

Anyone know why D6 merged with D3?

Could be because the travel is much better. D3 to Stillwater, WBL, NSP, and Forest Lake is ugly. D2 Girls last year didn't want D3 in League 2 and the compromise was that they only played each other once.

I attended the D3 coaches meeting on Monday night as one of the newest members of our new 12A League #3. I would like to apoligize on behalf of all of District 6 12A team for being such a burden to the District 3 officials. We have so many things that D3 teams have to comply with when coming to our buildings that it has their head of referee's in a tizzy.

"No overtime in D3...60 minute D3 games vs 75 minute D6 games"
"Does D3 teams have to wear neck guards?"
"Will we need to attach our mouth guards to the masks?
My personal favorite..."Do you have to wear the mouth guard on your top teeth ?" I didn't know Louisiania was also part of D3.

Again, if there is anything that the 8 members of District 6 can do to make the lives of the 4 members of D3 more enjoyable...just ask and I'll pass it on. I know you little band of castaways miss your trips down to D2 but we will do our best to replace that. And thanks to the wonderful group of D3 board members for making us feel so welcome. We are really looking forward to returning the hospitality when your D3 teams come down to our rink.

As a D3 parent who has spent quite a bit of money on a mouthguard that is (IMHO) actually safer than one that I can buy at Dicks. I am glad that I have someone advocating that I don't have to go buy another one and make sure we have both in my daughters bag. The neck guards are a bit less of a hassle, I personally am not a big fan and have always thought it was more of an overzealous parent reaction to something seen on You Tube then anything that really upped protection.

I think the D3 parents understand that D6 is run by 2nd ring suburb hockey moms (did not mention any city that starts with E). I guess we will draw the line on the must wear helmet in the car on the way to the D6 rink rule though.

Sorry for the sarcasm, as a parent I just frown on another $100 bucks worth of equipment to comply with rules that would never have flown in our district.

Bloomington U12A beat Chaska and Burnsville this weekend. Burnsville contest ended up being a scrimmage because no refs showed up.
