Who are some players we need to be watching this season? Let's look at underclassmen.
Any names out there....

Marvin and Gardener from Warroad, Cameranesi from Blake and Hespenheide and Menke from Shakopee are a few I can think of....Schipper from Breck; Donovan from Irondale (8th next year); EP's goalie Johnson;

SO: McMillen- Breck; Cullen- Totino; Stangl- Eagan; Kukowski- Eastview;

I would have to go with Steiklein from Roseville at D and Eder-Zedlik a forward from Stillwater as two outstanding sophomores.

Some girls I saw over the summer at several Tourneys:

Milan, stillwater, defense
Volk or vokl from Burnsville, forward?
Halverson, played 14uA last year at Highland, defense
Woodward, goalie white bear or Hill?
Progreba, N. St. Paul, Forward
Strasborg, N. St. Paul, forward
Gavick, from hudson, @ Hill I believe

Milan, progreba, strasborg and gavick, woodward won the super series last spring.

Halverson played for Highland but went to school at Edina. She would have been a nice addition to Edina's D core but she transferred to NSA.

National Sports Academy in Lake Placid, NY. Its a prep school much like Shattuck.

Halvorson left Edina schools and is attending the National Sports Academy. Tier 1 AAA U19. She's the only Freshman on the team. They play in the Eastern Division of the JWHL the same League the Thoroughbreds are in. Would have been a nice addition on the Edina squad.

Good for her, she is an outstanding player. The only flaw i see in her is she takes or took alot of penalties. (highland finished last in district last year because they lost so many HEP points, but had more wins than 2-3 teams ahead of them).
NSA looks like a place for the extremely dedicated families. Looks to be around 40k per year. I wonder if it is worth it?

I think everyone has the right to do what they think is right for their own kid as long as it is legal. This is America right? I personally wouldn't send my kid to a prep school. My wife and I would miss having her around and watching her grow up. She will be out of the nest soon enough so we intend to enjoy having her around for a little while longer. I think the money aspect is a good point and spending so much on high school would certainly bother me (I would have a problem spending it on local privates too) but maybe money isn't an issue for this particular family.

Just guessing but can you say scholarship?

The Thoroughbreds don't take freshman, only have a few sophomores, and have a birthdate cutoff they stick with wanting to have older girls including post graduate eligible players. Also NSA is a school and the Throroughbreds are not. I'd have to add the NSA experience looks pretty cool. Shattuck is in a corn field. NSA the mountains of Lake Placid.

To each his own but even with a scholarship it would be expensive. Scholarships don't cover all costs. Also, I would think that your 14 year old living in New York would be tough for the kid and the parents but maybe not. I know it would be tough on me and my wife (maybe not my kid since she is pretty independent).

Another good sophomore player is Ali Austin. It is my understanding that she is in Europe taking a year off and that she will leave Blake and return to her home school, Edina, next year.

www.mshsl.org has the most rosters so far - but not all are up yet. You need to look by school.
