Woodbury has seemed like it hasn't gotten up for most of the games so far. They WILL be ready for this game. This game between these two schools brings out the best of the teams. If Woodbury loses this game they will never hear the end of it from their peers and former teammates. I'm sure they are very aware of this. I predict this game will be the turning point of Woodbury's season. If they are lazy in this game, they will be lazy in every other game they play.
Woodbury 5-1.
Woodbury 5-1.
Now don't take this personally but....

Not to make excuses for any team, but it's possible the injury took the steam and emotion out of the Royals. These are young men that don't have experience with adversity suh as a teammate going down like that.qbtobe7 wrote:This is an extremely tough one to swallow being a Woodbury fan.
Also, if you can please say a prayer for Woodbury's Christian Turner tonight. Christian was carried off on a stretcher after being checked from behind into the boards and showed little, if any, movement while being helped off.
But, the health of a young man is more important than wins or losses, so hopefully a speedy recovery for the young man..

WOW... I really am shocked by this, but since I was there, I can't help but comment how flat Woodbury looked. They couldn't sustain any flow or momentum for more than about 5 minutes at a time, couldn't make it through neutral zone with any ease, and couldn't break out at times. Park did a great job in the neutral zone and had good, quick rushes into Woodbury's zone. Yes, Park got two soft goals, but Woodbury just couldn't finish even though they had several chances. In the end, it was Park's improved game combined with Woodbury's lack of motivation that caused the result IMO.
I have to call out the Park kids' completely classless cheering after Turner went down. They weren't just cheering a kid for hitting someone. Turner was down for a while and they were cheering as he was laying motionless in the corner. He does need a prayer or two...it looked pretty bad.

i attended the park woodbury game tonight and it is true that woodbury did not play at their normal level..but i think that park proved tonight that they are not a team to take lightly like years past. they are a very experienced team including bradnyn graff (who got a hat trick tonight) and captain nate youso who played stellar defensivly and offensivly. beating a ranked team and one of the best teams in the section..it is not an easy task and i think they diserve some credit for it. i wasn't planning on attending parks home opener against cretin on saturday..but after tonight i am now excited to watch.

i was at the game and i dont think that the student section was booing Turner as much as they were booing the ref in throwing one of the park players out. from where i was standing it was a clean hit. every time a kid laces up their skates there is a chance that something like that will happen. my prayers are with turner and his family and i wish him a speedy recovery.brandy38 wrote:WOW... i think if anything that the injury would spark a bit of life from woodbury. they just didnt have any drive from the moment they stepped on the ice. woodbury is one of my favorite teams to watch and i hope they can change some things before this gets worse.Goldfishdude wrote:Not to make excuses for any team, but it's possible the injury took the steam and emotion out of the Royals. They weren't booing him. They seemed to be cheering that he was injured. He was laying flat on the ice and the whole Park student section was just going crazy even after the hit and the play left the area. I distinctly remember wondering what was wrong with them. I'm not trying to trash the students. I like loud cheering and passionate support, and they were totally fine before and after the incident, but their apparent joy at the injury of an opposing player, even if shown for a few seconds, represents Park HS and Cottage Grove very poorly.mr lady byng wrote:i was at the game and i dont think that the student section was booing Turner as much as they were booing the ref in throwing one of the park players out. from where i was standing it was a clean hit. every time a kid laces up their skates there is a chance that something like that will happen. my prayers are with turner and his family and i wish him a speedy recovery.brandy38 wrote:WOW... Being close to this area, yes might be a little harsh booing when a player is down. But if you have ever heard some of the Woodbury players and parents and what they say and have said about the Park kids this is just a little pay-back. Ever hear the Woodbury Student section when they are winning??? Unfortunately this wasn't the appropriate time. With Park being on the receiving end of Woodbury beatings the past few years, this is just a bitter sweet victory for the Wolfpack.
Yes, to be fair, I can't argue with that.BigShow wrote:Being close to this area, yes might be a little harsh booing when a player is down. Thank God for that. Please, any updates would be appreciated. Everytime I hear something like this I feel like throwing up having a kid in hockey myself.PowerForward25 wrote:I am happy to say Christian is going to be ok. It's going to be a long recovery but things could've been much worse.
I think of Ben Peyton who happens to be my 2nd cousin.
Well, you can take any justification you are trying to muster from that classless display and stick it somewhere. What is in the water down there in CG anyway? To cheer when a player is laying on the ice unresponsive? I've never seen that at the HS level ever.BigShow wrote:Being close to this area, yes might be a little harsh booing when a player is down. I was at a game at WB a couple of years ago when they were thumping Park by about 5 goals and one of those Park punks got thrown out of the game for throwing cheap shots and disrespecting the refs (big surprise) and he went right out and destroyed a $700.00 drinking fountain with his stick. I was standing down by the ice and when that kid went off the ice I knew he was going to do something stupid so I followed out to the walkway under the bleechers and witnessed it. I sent the cop right into his locker room and Daddy got a bill for over $1000.00.
Sorry, no respect or admiration from me for Park Hockey.
What's with the water in WBL?? Didn't you have a player egg the coaches house or something a few years back? Didn't a few others do some stpid stuff also? Don't throw stones your backyard isn't the cleanest one in town either! How's the Drinking going for certian player up there?? the water fountian was still broke so he switched to the hard stuff!! WBL has never had kids thrown out of games before have they??
Where you at the game?? Take secondary accounts for what they are and thats second hand accounts.

Christian has a broken back and a compressed disc. He will be out for 5-6 months in recovery. There's NO conceivable way that Park kid DIDN"T know that check would be from behind. It was cheap, vengeful and intentional. That kid should be banned for the remainder of the season. As for the fans, it's typical Park behavior. From Squirts forward, ALL Park teams play like that and fans act that way.WB6162 wrote:Thank God for that. Please, any updates would be appreciated. BigShow, open your eyes. Since when does WB represent WBL? Could WB represent Woodbury. Seems more likely since it was a Woodbury hockey game.BigShow wrote:What's with the water in WBL?? Let's focus on what is really important in this thread. As mentioned Christian will be out for 5-6 months. He is currently being fitted with a back brace. Let us pray that he does not have a life long injury due to this unfortunate incident. Hockey is a game that last a couple of hours, this young man needs all of the hockey fans in Minnesota to positively support his recovery and to be in our thoughts and prayers. Let's just dedicate this thread to Christian and his recovery. He is a fine young man and let's hope that he may be able to lace up the skates again one day. Keep you spirits up, Christian, we'll all behind you!!!!!
