It is interesting to see the overall drop in the overall caliber of girls teams playing in this......why? Is it a factor of cost of Tournament to teams? High cost of gate to parents or famalies? Or opportunity for other schools to organize top tournaments and keep the gate?

Not sure if it's all financial but that drives some of it I'm sure. Over the years I heard coaches cite lack of input into division composition, game times of JV & V teams being considered, cost or travel to play the same teams they play non-conf or even in-conf (due to lack of input into brackets/divisions). Then, in the early days, there were the multi-OT games pre MSHSL adoption of National Federation rules - so if you played a PM game you could be hours behind due to multiple OT contest(s) before you. It may have become too big, coaches and communities wanted to instead have more control and follow the Kaposia Classic model...

You have to give the Schwans cup kudos for putting on a good tournament year after year. and after trying to find scores and stats from other games at other facilities Schwans is by far the leader on posting stats with pointstreak.

Agreed. Pointstreak was an option for MGHCA site but was expensive from what I recall... Also, I thought the boys HS assn used it for a while but I may be wrong...

I know from talking to a head coach from a team that played in the Schwan's tournament in the past that they didn't feel the cost was worth it and they pulled out and chose a different tournament.

I suppose economics plays a bigger role than I maybe realize... I don't even know what they charge now for this tourney as far as participation fee. I also would be curious to hear what they charge, if anything, for spectators...

I wonder how this compares to the other events out there. Did the other events have JV components? Doesn't seem like the JV & V discount part was a big sell for the Girls with only 1 JV bracket but there were also a lot of Non-MN teams in this event that likely didn't have JV's or at least didn't bring them along or put them in another event, etc...

I imagine the team-hosted events use the gate to pay for event costs so maybe there is little-to-no cost to participating teams (other than what they charge their fans to attend)?

Abra/Edina had a JV bracket with all 8 teams. It was a very good tourney.
