Class A Rankings 1-10-10

Post by HShockeywatcher »

After the top 6 teams, things are really up in the air and once you get to the teens, there are about 20 teams that could all be interchanged. Conference/section play get going strong now.

1. St Thomas Academy (7-4)
Won’t fall unless they lose to a Class A team on their schedule. Biggest game on season this week at the State Fair Coliseum against Cretin on Tuesday.
-This week: @Cretin (Tues, 7:30pm), Henry Sibley (Thurs, 7:30pm), @South St Paul (Sat, 3pm)

2. Breck (9-1)
Next challenge at Shattuck two Thursday from now.
-This week: @St Paul Academy (Tues, 7pm), St Paul Johnson (Thurs, 7:30pm)

3. Hermantown (11-1)
Continuing to win, others around them fall.
-This week: @Grand Rapids (Tues, 7:30pm), St Cloud Cathedral (Sat, 7:30pm)

4. Mahtomedi (9-3)
Two conference games this week.
-This week: @Tartan (Thurs, 7:30pm), Simley (Sat, 3pm)

5. Warroad (11-2)
Losing to EGF is never good for rankings. Big game at Roseau this week.
-This week: @Roseau (Thurs, 7:30pm), Crookston (Sat, 4:30pm)

6. Thief River Falls (9-4)
Only losses to #3, #5 teams, and good AA Moorhead and Roseau. They should have an easy week this week before they get to attempt to avenge their one goal loss to Warroad.
-This week: @Park Rapids (Tues, 7:30pm), @Crookston (Thurs, 7:30pm)

7. Virginia (9-5-2)
Losses to #3, #4 and to two quality AA opponents.
-This week: Proctor (Tues, 7:30pm), Hibbing (Sat, 7:30pm)

8. Duluth Denfeld (10-3-1)
Good week, has lost in their last 8.
-This week: @Forest Lake (Mon, 7:30pm)

9. Blake (9-4)
They just continue to win and will probably do more of it this week. Losses to #4, #6 and quality AA teams. Like Breck, only thing their schedule can do to them is bring them down. Only quality teams left are Minnetonka and Breck.
-This week: Minnehaha Academy (Thurs, 7:30pm), @St Paul Johnson (Sat, 7:30pm)

10. South St Paul (7-5)
No quality wins, but quality losses. Only games left on their schedule are games they should win and games against much higher ranked opponents. Could lose 4 more and not have proven much more, but their losses have been close. Big week this week.
-This week: @Rochester Mayo (Tues, 7:30pm), @North St Paul (Thurs, 8pm), St Thomas Academy (Sat, 3pm)

11. Duluth Marshall (6-6)
Taking the #3 team to OT, despite the loss, and losing by 1 to a team the #5 team has lost to aren’t good for their record, but don’t hurt them in the rankings.
-This week: @Proctor (Fri, 7:30pm), @Bemidji (Sat, 7:30pm)

12. St Cloud Cathedral (7-4)
Despite the losses, they have beat Denfeld and Holy Family Catholic. They have two good games this week including starting a 9 game road trip.
-This week: Litchfield (Mon, 7:15pm), Orono (Fri, 7:15pm), @Hermantown (Sat, 7:30pm)

13. Hibbing (7-6-1)
Hibbing finally gets ranked. Up and down season complete with a 5 game losing streak, although all losses were to quality to opponents. Only one section loss thus far, could very likely be the 7A #1 or #2 seed by end of season, with a BIG section and Class A away game this week.
-This week: Cloquet (Tues, 7:30pm), @Virginia (Sat, 7:30pm)

14. Mound-Westonka (7-4-1)
Up and down season, with a few quality wins at Virginia, at Rogers and at Orono. They also have some questionable losses; only to go up from here.
-This week: @Holy Family Catholic (Tues, 7pm), Hopkins (Thurs, 7pm), @Waconia (Sat, 2:30pm)

15. International Falls (9-6)
The Broncos have not proven too much with their schedule. Have some good games remaining on their schedule.
-This week: off

16. Rogers (6-4-2)
3-1-2 in their last 6 games. Good wins have shown they can play, but questionable ties/losses have shown they aren’t consistent.
-This week: Princeton (Sat, 3pm)

17. Orono (7-5-1)
Only quality losses, no quality wins; they can redeem themselves in the coming weeks with a good showing in Wright County and a rematch at Rogers by season’s end.
-This week: @Delano (Tues, 7:30pm), @Cathedral (Thurs, 7pm)

18. Sartell-St Stephen (7-3-2)
I’m not sure I like putting Sartell up this high; they have a good loss to Cathedral and good ties, but nothing more to show. They could win out, secure the top seed in 6A and not have proven that much. We’ll see what other teams above them do.
-This week: River Lakes (Tues, 7pm), Sauk Rapids (Thurs, 7pm)

19. Rochester Lourdes (6-4-2)
Have a good schedule with a lot to prove this season.
-This week: Owatonna (Mon, 7:30pm), Marshall (Sat, 3pm)

20. Holy Family Catholic (8-4)
Everything to prove, the Fire are in a tough section, but could get a top 4 seed with a good showing in Wright County.
-This week: Mound-Westonka (Tues, 7pm), Delano (Sat, 7pm)

Nice work! No doubt the game of the week for single A has to be the Saturday IRC/Section 7 rivalry of Hibbing and Virginia. This will have huge implications on the IRC, Section 7, and state rankings.

Hibbing@ Virginia (sat) is probably the biggest. Others:
STA@SSP (sat)
SCC@H'town (sat)
Orono@SCC (fri)
Mound@HFC (tues)

Probably not a week with much moving around pending upsets in these games.

If it had been one to Benilde, they'd still be in there with confusion of where to put them. But they lost to at the time (2-9) Irondale. They play Totino x2, St Francis x2, Mahtomedi, Brainerd and Irondale again. They could easily end the year with 9 losses. If they don't, they will probably rise in the rankings.
