If Mayo can play like they have at different times then it will be a good game. If Mayo plays as poorely as they have at times then it could be a blowout. It is as simple as that.

Century 7-1 Mayo just doesnt have any depth to take down Century.

Nodak: I think Mayo actually is deeper on the bench than Century is but just doesn't have the skilled first line that Century has along with the goalie. But your prediction of the score may be right on if Mayo doesn't come to play. Mayo has a tough one tonight against South St. Paul who is better than Century.

I wouldnt say SSP is better then Century, they are an average team as well and regardless to who Mayo plays I still don't believe they are strong enough to beat Century.

What is Mayo's problem they give up either 6 or 7 goals every game?

Defense, Goalies or Both?

Not many teams will get 7 or 8 by Century defense and Goalie Kautz.

Century 8 Mayo 2

I think its a little of everything.....

Mayos goaltending isnt the best to be honest

the passing is pretty sloppy

and they also arent gelling together as a team....so im not sure if thats coaching are what the problem is

I have watched most of Mayo's games this year and this is my take on why Mayo is playing this way. Something has to be done about there third line as they give up a ton of goals. There isn't much skill at all on the third line and during there 7 game skid they are around -14. Overall they are worse than that. Goaltending has been a huge issue as we seen last night against St. Paul. Mayo has been outscored 40 to 14 the last 7 games. They also give up alot of powerplay goals as well. Mayo did win the 2nd and 3rd period against St. Paul but just couldn't put the puck past there goalie who is committed to the U of M. They gave up 4 goals in the first period in which 2 were soft goals given up by the goaltender. Mayo can't recover from 1st periods like this they just are not good enough.

South St. Paul beat Tartan, Tartan beat Century so I think you could say SSP is better than Century.

Century has one real good line after that it's a crap shoot, really only Brainerd has shut that line out and I doubt Mayo will be able to. I see Century gave up 5 goals to Albert Lea, ever since they hired on the new coach in late December their defense sure seems to have fallen off the map.

If Mayo stays out of the box and can slow the game down they have a chance but if they take penalties and try to play an up and down game they'll be in trouble.

Is Goldy referring to Zmolek. If anything, I have heard they are playing better as a unit since his arrival.

Goldy is not very knowledgeable or reliable any longer or ever.

Based on Goldly's rationale Mayo Beat Red Wing. Red wing Beat Lourdes
so Mayo is the better team.

If Mayo can play like they did in the 2nd and early on in the 3rd period last night, this should be a very entertaining game to watch.

I saw Hookum was running Mayo's practice today, that could be a problem.

Mayo was better than Lourdes at the beginning of the year, since then a young Lourdes team has gotten better and a young Mayo team lost their best player in Spencer Lee. Both teams are inconsistant to say the least. I've only seen Century play 3 times; BSM and twice at the Kiwinias tournament, I saw SSP last night and in my opinion SSP is better. SSP plays a tougher schedule than Century does largely because their conference is far and away better than the Big Nine.

Zmolek was a very, very good player. Does that relate into coaching? I don't know but since he came there the defense looked awful against Brainerd and Eastview - they go forward very well but lose where they are in their own end and were far less disciplined than they were against BSM, a game in which they played well. Maybe Century's defense wasn't very good prior to Zmolek coming there this season, I don't know I never saw them but they had 3 returning players from a state tournament team, they couldn't have been bad. The rumor at the Kiwanias was Zmolek wanted to coach, Century turned him down then some parents got him on the staff.

In youth hockey there are people very pro Zmolek and very anti Zmolek, there's not really a middle ground and that's going to taint anyone's opinion on him, fair or not. I'm not sure bringing him or anyone in mid season is a good thing, mostly for consistancy reasons.

Hookum was coaching the game against South Saint Paul too. Wonder what happened to Grosso?

I wish Zmolek would help out Mayo. He was always a great coach to play for and he makes going to practice fun.

Goldy please list your BS credentials again.

Goldy313: Mayo is not a young team they only return 6 skaters and a goalie for next season of the current varsity roster.

I've been told it has nothing to do with his wife, but with him. Not sure on the details though.

While non-dressed players Sam Benson, Dan McCamey and Alex Whitney did their best to amuse fans with their between-period dancing, the Rochester Ice Hawks proved just as entertaining on the ice Friday night at the Rochester Recreation Center.

Hopefully Alex can come tonight and do a dance to help us win.

Grosso was in the hospital for a few days, but is out now and doing very well. He will be on the bench today against Century.

Kautz and Martini both with hat tricks
Tyler Iverson had two goals....
Kautz played 31 minutes in goal
Sellnow played 20.....

Mayos goals came from Sikkema and O'reilly.....
Mayo played 3 goalies.....
Alex Van Galder 22 minutes gave up 4 goals
Stefan Elde 12 minutes gave up 5
and there JV goalie Micheal Debusman 17 minutes and 3 goals....
