Will Tonka lose?
I am by no means crowning them, but (with no disrespect) unlike some teams who have started undefeated for a good portion of a season with an easy schedule, Tonka has played most of the state top teams and by the time sections starts they will have played all of the the teams most consider top 5, with the exception of Hill Murray.
The last team to win a title after an undefeated/untied season was Jefferson in 1993, with 5 teams losing one game.
If they continue to win, they will end up 31-0 and be one of the best teams the state has seen.

Depending on when Gardiner returns I forsee Edina beating them in a close game. So far this season, Edina was Tonka's hardest game. Edina gave them a great game in the schwan cup final. If Gardiner isn't back before that game and Edina goes into it with a lot of confidence look for the Hornets for the win.

There are three teams in their conference who, looking at their schedule as a whole, could easily pull an upset. But each night individually it will be much more difficult.
With a 1-0 home win over the defending champs in Eden Prairie, making it 27-0 they aren't even a lock for state. Very interesting.

Tonka
I don't think they can win 25 games in regular season without a loss. It would probably be good for them to lose prior to sections.
I think the Classic Lake champ (Tonka, Edina or Wayzata) is gonna have at least 1 loss and maybe 2 (3-way tie anyone).
I'm gonna predict a 23-2 regular season and #1 seed in 6AA.
Other top seeds in 6AA:
2) Eden Prairie
3) BSM (win over Wayzata gets them this)
4) Wayzata
5) Hopkins

HSHW comes up with some great one's, doesn't he?shakey wrote:This is an absurd discussion to be having.HShockeywatcher wrote:Obviously all talk at this point, as they still have more than half the games it would take to do it left; if this Tonka team goes 31-0, are they the best boys hockey team MN has ever had?

Instead of making vague statements, why not actually explain them?schwang17 wrote:HSHW comes up with some great one's, doesn't he?shakey wrote:This is an absurd discussion to be having.HShockeywatcher wrote:Obviously all talk at this point, as they still have more than half the games it would take to do it left; if this Tonka team goes 31-0, are they the best boys hockey team MN has ever had?
This is a discussion board and I'm posing a question for discussion. The very unique thing is that by season's end if they win state they will have played most of the other top teams in the state, which often doesn't happen when a team wins state.
He certainly does. What can you expect with over 4,000 posts?schwang17 wrote:HSHW comes up with some great one's, doesn't he?shakey wrote:This is an absurd discussion to be having.HShockeywatcher wrote:Obviously all talk at this point, as they still have more than half the games it would take to do it left; if this Tonka team goes 31-0, are they the best boys hockey team MN has ever had?

Actually it's completely different from Bloomington Jefferson last season. Minnetonka has played against more talent in one week this season than Jefferson did all of last season. Jefferson was very unproven going into sections and a few of people, including myself, believed they weren't quite as good as their record showed. Minnetonka has proven week after week this season that they are the top team, they've beaten pretty much half the teams in the top 20 and the top class A school twice.youngblood08 wrote:same talk last year with Bloom Jeff and look what happened there. The more they see these teams the better the odds are for an upset later, thats all I'm sayin.....
That said, I'm not going to guarantee a state appearance for them. They're going to have to beat, in my opinion, the 2nd best team in the state, Eden Prairie, to get there. They certainly won't lose 5-0 in the section final like Jefferson last season. It will be a good game. If they were in any section other than 6AA and 2AA, I'd say state would pretty much be a lock for them.
