War or Words Coach Vanelli Breck & Coach Marvin Warroad
If you want a good laugh check out the link below as our good Friend Doug Erlien brings up a comment made by coach Vanelli on tomorrow's State Class A Championship game between Warroad and Breck.

Matching speed and Milli Vanelli pretty quick witted come back from Izzy. Short but sweet should make for an interesting game tomorrow.

If I didn’t know these two better I would have thought this was staged to boost attendance. Breck’s only chance was to have Warroad approach the game over confident and complacent. You never want to work on a Northern team’s insecurities. They already feel like they are overlooked. I think they may have just put the War back into Warrior…hey it might not be too late to say you were merely lip-synching and this was the take from the New Alm press conference.

Is he the real reason why some of the girls left last year?coyotehockey wrote:Well apparently Breck's skating skills out did Warroads .........................oh I'm sorry Breck lost!
Once again Lenny has put his foot in his mouth!
How do you get your head through the door coach? The words of a true ego-maniac.

Honestly, coyotehockey, you don't know what you're talking about.
Coach Vannelli's comments were repeated to Marvin out of context...Vannelli has repeatedly praised the abilities of the Warroad goal scorers and their stellar goalie. His comment was merely a indirect compliment to his team for being the strong skating team that they are. I think the fact that Marvin took the comment so personally is not only unfortunate but a a direct result of the media trying to stir up some excitement for a poorly attended tournament. Marvin's response sets a very poor example for his players.
Girls leave expensive private schools and stop playing hockey for a variety of personal reasons that have no place being discussed on a public forum. These are teenage girls and their privacy should be respected.
Find something better to talk about. I sincerely hope this thread is removed.

Ok lets look at Vannelli's words: “We’re going to respect their skill, and we know they have some depth in net and again, if they can match our skating skills it is going to be an awesome championship game.” This sounds like a coach who knows his teams' strength and is hoping to have a competitive game. David Marvin's reaction was uncalled for and it skewed Vannelli's words to be confrontational and arrogant even though that was obviously not Vannelli's intention. The Breck girls are in great condition and they do have a lot of speed. They showed it today. Vannelli was right in predicting that it would be an awesome game if the Warroad girls matched their speed. If you are using this forum to create drama where there is none and to bash a coach who has done nothing but great things for his team, then you need to grow up. Yes there have been a few incidents, as there are with any team, but those girls love their coaches and they had a fantastic season. Lets not overshadow that with petty statements and rumors. I for one want to congratulate Breck for their accomplishments this season. Way to go girls!

I personally don't believe it was taken out of context. I heard the majority of the interview and couldn't understand for the life of me why a coach who only brought 15 players to the State tournament, would be so cocky. A truly classy coach would have stopped at the point where he commended the other team. Just remember that when you assume you may eat your words in the end. While it was a good game today, the true victors clearly conquered.

You can think what you want about Vannelli's comments but I honestly believe he did not intend for the statement to be cocky and simply had confidence in his team. And rightfully so. He obviously knew what he was doing with his 15 girl roster. They made it to the championship game and led for most of it against a team who everyone thought was unstoppable. It was not a foot in the mouth moment. Breck met their match and Vannelli admitted that after the game: "We haven't seen that kind of speed from any teams, and all of a sudden it's a new tempo to the game. Hats off to Warroad's efforts." Theres no reason to have ill will against this team or its coaches.

A truly classy coach would have actually commended the other team. I don't believe Marvin ever made the attempt. Breck is an incredible team and only had 15 girls available to complete their roster. Warroad is also, most likely, the best team in the state, and had a great core of players to win the championship.
I am still, however, seriously disappointed in Marvin. an all-around classless act. Goalsniper43, if you only heard "the majority of the interview"--where you were one of four or five people--you can't truly understand what's going on here. Vannelli was never cocky; you must just be uneducated and unwilling to hear the truth.
A truly classy coach would have complimented his team on their performamce and nothing more. To take a shot at the 2nd place coaches with respect to their team and their beliefs in their players is ludicrous. Warroad (coaches) can be happy with their win despite the fact that no one (besides goalsniper and whoever else on this forum) is supporting them because of their poor sportsmanship. It is so unfortunate that such great and talented young women have to witness the actions of an adult that displays such horrible character.
This is an absolute joke. I can't even believe this thread is allowed to continue. I had access to the entire situation and let me tell you that Marvin is at fault here [and you don't even know the half of it]. This is truly a dark day for girls' hockey.
