State Tournament Contest update

Post by east hockey »

First, thanks to the 71 people who made picks in both Classes. 48 people picked both afternoon quarterfinal games correctly.

The upcoming Breck-New Ulm game won't change anything, since everyone picked Breck. But if New Ulm should somehow pull off the unthinkable, those who had Breck picked to win it all (like me) will suffer a bit.

Warroad is favored in the second evening game by a 60-14 count.

Lee, does every game count the same, i.e. 1 point for each correct pick?

Yes. I tried to keep it as simple as possible this season.

Lee..

I am sure you saw that I did not participate. With my track record???

I figured .... if you had 72 entrants, there would be Goldfishdude's predictions, and then 71 exactly the same... of course, that would have made your job easier, but then 71 winners??? Who would have gotten the bragging rights??

Fishydude,

Forget the gift card. When I win, you can take me to Jimmy's for Walleye fingers and a couple of frosty mugs.
If you can't say something nice, don't say anything.

Body?? Why do you think I waited?? After two years of you taking my lunch money, and standing outside Aldrich waiting for me to show up so that I would pay your admission fee, I felt I needed to buy my friendship with others..

And Medley?? You win, it's a deal...

Five more suffer their first missed pick with Edina beating Roseau.

Well, nobody is perfect. Literally. We have 22 people who are 7-1 so far, leading the pack. I haven't taken the time to determine who is mathematically eliminated; with 14 games left to play, there are way to many possible outcomes to determine this.

Six of those with a 7-1 record can end up 21-1, so they sit atop the pack.

Update after the Roseau-Blaine game

Post by east hockey »

With Roseau beating Blaine in the AA consolation semifinal, we have 11 people tied at the top with a 10-1 record. The Mahtomedi-Hermantown game underway should clarify this a bit more.

With the Class A semifinals completed, we have seven people tied at 13-1. Three could possibly end up 21-1.

There are 256 possible combinations in the remaining games, so it's too early to see who's been eliminated. If you have ten or less correct, you have nearly no chance. If eleven correct (like me), it doesn't look good.

In tonights's games:

Edina-Apple Valley: 31 picked Edina, 1 (Irish24) picked Apple Valley.

Minnetonka-Hill Murray: 61 picked Minnetonka, 6 picked Hill-Murray.

Four are tied at 14-1. It appears eleven people are still in the running. If you aren't at least 12-3, you're out of the running. Even at 13-2 or 12-3, it depends on who you picked in the seven remaining games.

Unofficially, we have a winner!

BarTender3035 is 17-1. Four contestants are 16-2 but can't catch him/her. Six are 15-3 and can't make up enough ground.

I'll finalize this after the tournament is over (probably Sunday), but congrats to BarTender3035!
