Garrett Hendrickson
I had not had the opportunity to see Garrett Hendrickson play until yesterday. I had read the reports from his play in the Elite League as well as his play throughout this season and do not want to harshly criticize his play based on one game. Is he playing injured or sick?

I was not impressed either with his play. I am not a fan of someone banging their stick constantly for a pass while standing out at the blue line, this is not squirts. Also if your going to call for a pass, which everyone in the rink heard numerous times, you better skate hard and do something. (Not peeling off if your teammate missed your stick by an inch) If you did not know that Hendrickson was #7, you would not, well I would not have noticed him. Krause, Marshall those players you notice. I am just sharing my observations, maybe there is something more to it.
I was really surprised that he did not back check or do a whole lot in the defensive zone. He was on the ice for at least 2 of the goals, maybe all 3. Th reason Virginia lost that game was because they played the first 2 lines exclusively in the 1st/2nd periods. If you were at the game, you could see how gassed they were in the 3rd. Hermantown's depth got them.

I thought it was just me being sensitive to the constant stick banging.

Re: Hendrickson
I said this earlier and totally agree. He is highly overrated and by the looks of it has a not so great work ethic. He'll get eaten alive at the college level.INDUS wrote:Motzko better pull the scholorship offer before he wastes it on someone that doesn't deserve it. Offer it to Eddy instead!!

Hendrickson was brutal yesterday. I thought the exact same thing as the first poster... he had to either be sick or dinged up. Because he may as well not have even been out there because he did absolutely nothing. As the star guy on his team, he was a massive disappointment. I was hoping to see him do well as I cheer on the Blue Devils at state.
The big problem is his skating. At the arena yesterday, I was talking to a coach of one of the Class AA participants and he said he recently had mentioned Hendrickson to an eastern conference NHL scout and the scout basically laid it out that he wasn't a very good prospect because his skating is not very good.

Eddy has stepped it up big time this season. He is definitely the most improved from last year. He scored against Hermantown and had a couple nice assists today. He's a great player and works hard all year round.
I have never seen Hendrickson hit someone. You cant just skate away from players at a D1 level. He does have a lot to work on in the next year before he goes off to SCSU.

The way I look at is: Hendrickson has a very good shot and somewhat good hands. He also is a good position player (partly because he isn't doing the dirty work). His problem: he doesn't work very hard. He has his dad as coach and inevitably it probably makes it easier for Garret to get away with lazy play (not backchecking, wanting other kids to get the puck and give it to him, cherry picking). His other problem is that he is pretty slow.
He can succeed at the next level but he's going to have to start being more of a team player. Even other great players in the state, who can be somewhat selfish, at least do more little things that Hendrickson doesn't do.

He was absolutely brutal. Wouldnt of noticed him at all. He did absolutely nothing all game long. The biggest game of his life, on tv and a chance to get a upset in the state tournament. And he showed no urgency..
He cherry picked, did not back check, played no defennse, was way out of position at times in the D-zone.
Wasnt impressed..
