First you need to go to the SSP board and show them that there is interest in having a team. You need to found out if there is enough kids in SSP to field a team. You also need to get someone to coach that is dedicated to it and is willing to work hard to keep the program afloat.
Alot of Jr Gold teams that are in certain cities are because there were dedicated ppl that recruited kids to play and showed that it isnt just some bush league.

Beasty boy-
FT has laid it out pretty well. Here are some additional things to consider:
1) Determine interest. If there's enough then:
2) Find a coach
3) Make sure the coach is certified or can get certified
4) Talk to the Metro league board. Their website is: www.metrohockeyleague.org. Thay can help with the admin stuff
5) Go to SSP board and present your findings
6) Have SSP register your team. (SSP Registrar does this)
7) Talk with the SSP ice scheduler and block off ice for JGA games and practices. For games you will need 1.5 hour blocks. League play is 12 home games. You will need about 25 total slots to work around
8-schedule in some tournaments
9) Have tryouts (if needed)
10) Have coach go to scheduling meeting (held in Nov)
11) Have fun!

Your biggest hurdle is going to be getting people to commit to the team. You will find lots of people who will say stuff like "oh, a new team, sounds good. give me a call when you have it going and we will see where we are at and might sign up.". No matter how hard you try to convince them to sign up so that you can get enough kids just to form a team they are going to drag their feet.
Also, try to get some help with the up front tourney fees from your association. The tournaments start to fill in mid summer and people are wanting their deposit money/tourney fees by mid August to early Sept. If you are going to have to wait until after HS tryouts to try to get the kids to form a team you are not going to have a "team income" from fees until probably Thanksgiving or there about. By then the tournies are full. The tourney directors will work with you a little bit but you can't really blame them for wanting to fill a spot rather than wait for a team that might or might not get formed so that they can pay the entry fees.
Not sure how it would be to have a league to go into, that might make it easier to do. Without a set of league games it is very hard to do.
Good luck with getting it going, I hope it works for you.

Yes,but clarify when you say commit,it means you will give 100% all the time, play like you still love the game...
Re: How do we get a jr gold team?
So can you since you can do no wrong and think you could be the best coach out there. Instead of always complaining about the coaching which do you about the high school also why dont you step up and do it.MnPride2 wrote:Jr gold beast wrote:South St. Paul was without a jr gold team for the 1st time in several years and i was wondering how and if a team could get in2 the league for next season?

huh...well since all you did for most of the season was bitch about Troy this and Troy that and how you guys butted heads for most of the season(and last season),listening to Troy and his "can`t control the kids" rant, also hearing about some of the coaching issues last year...seems one coach had a hissy fit quit then came back, also hearing how Troy does nothing but put down his players game after game(even after the Tonka game)tells me there probably should have been a coaching change or two. Had i been the coach,a good 3rd of these kids would never have made the team...period!! Had i been the coach there would have been quite a few kids riding the bench till they wanted to play or they would have been looking some where else to play, had i been the coach and one or more of my assistants had maybe a better idea i might have pulled my head out of my #%@ and listened... Sounded to me like a lot of these kids played like this last year...hey bring em back for another lack luster year...oh but wait...we now have a goalie who can actually stop the puck, cool now the kids can do even more standing around, coasting, big circles etc etc etc etc. Never said i want to be a coach, maybe i shoulda been one,i`ll/we`ll never know,my post about "you can have the blaine team" was ment as a joke...hence the smilie faces. You obviously took as another poke at the wonderful job you guys did this year, but hey the rewards program you guys used worked oh so well...everyones a winner, here`s more ice time, skate like you want, play hockey like you`ve been coached...oh wait they did just that...didn`t they?? You wanna rant...there ya go!!!!!!!
Also as far as complaining about the High School coach...been to State 5 years in a row now...had the talent...you tell me where the problem is!!!
