If you ran Channel 45...
I'm not completely complaining because at least the state tournament is televised. But there are a lot of things that bug me about this channel.
1) Replaying the specials until I could repeat everything said in them (like the Squaw Valley episode). It destroys the signifiance of these events. Play them once and be done.
2) Lack of coverage in talking with players and coaches.
3) Lou Nanne and Darbie Hendrickson only going for AA games. Now I know that there is always debate about A vs AA on this forum. But even the A haters/AA lovers have to admit that this is ridiculous. Not only does it suggest that these two are two good for A but that the whole A tournament is a joke. I'd be bothered if I was one of the kids in the A tournment.
4) Phil Housley. Although he's not as biased as Lou Nanne, he really says nothing significant or of value during the games. I actually don't mind Clay Matvick. Because he doesn't regularily do hockey games, it is unique and different (a good thing for a tournament that is unique in many ways). But with Phil, its a different story.
5) The intermission lady. Does she know anything about hockey?

I'd be curious to hear what you guys would do if you were in charge of channel 45.

Well, Louie is a very important business man, and I am sure he is at the stage of his life that he is given the full right to determine his role, if any..
I am actually surprised Matvidork does all the games as play-by-play, because that means he is at the rink from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m Wed,Thursday, Friday.... that can be dragging, and using your voice...

A few thoughts:
The intermission lady is ridiculous. Whatever happened to Ann Carroll? I think that was her name. She did a good job. This new lady cuts people off and asks retorical questions. Ugh...
Clay Matvick has a good voice and calls the game decently but he needs to do his research. He constantly says the wrong names and teams during every game. Take a couple hours and go over the names and numbers will ya?
Phil Housely is not a color commentary guy. The end. He can't explain anything. He sounds like he's never played before. There's just something about him that upsets me when listening to him.
And Lou Nanne. He's ridiculous. But...he makes me laugh with his long explanations and his infinite knowledge of usless facts. So, old man river can stay.
They need to get these games on FSNNorth and get a 30 minute pre-game and a Quest HSH live after the game. Full of interviews, stats, game footage, and upcoming events. This is the biggest high school tournament in the world isn't it? Some one make it happen.

IF I ran 45, I'd get each participating school to have their TV production class put together a video for their school. It wouldn't cost 45 anything and would be alot more entertaining than the same OLD video's played over and over! Also, get rid of the blonde- she's embarrasing. This is the State of Hockey, I'm sure you could find a slew of talented and knowledgable people, who could do a much better job.
Yes, like a road to the state tournament video. I would love to hear kids interviews and highlights from these teams playoff runs. It's so mysterious for me because outside of Section 7 and 5a, I only hear, but don't see the games, especially the good section finals. And everyone benefits: kids making videos (or parents of hockey players benefit), those watching benefit because of better coverage, and it would cost 45 nothing. This could be their "specials" for the quarterfinals. One for the first, one for the second. This is always something I wanted to see.blueline1 wrote:IF I ran 45, I'd get each participating school to have their TV production class put together a video for their school. Well put. I don't like "old man river" either but he can stay. I started a Lou Nanny poll here and my thoughts were that he should retire. With the replys, one would think I shot him. We really need FSN to broadcast this. It's a perfect fit.MNHockey75 wrote:A few thoughts:
