I should have said my kids the old-goalie's not strapping them on. Just the 98, 01.

Well run tournament, ice at Hrmantown almost as bad as super rink was two weeks ago. 98 nats lost to t-bay 98's 4 to 2 in champ. T-bay had a nice looking team. Well coached, hard hitting.

Pretty well run but they need to fix some things. No way a team with 1 loss should be seeded #1 with birth in championship game over 3 teams without a loss INCLUDING the team that beat THEM ! That and very inconsistent officiating ... perhaps they were on the ice too long or too many games in a row ? Saw very chippy play including tomahawk chops with sticks, punches and near brawls as 96 teams left the ice. I guess they felt the ref's weren't controlling of the game so they would administer their own retribution.

Yes at 98 level the refs tended to" let the kids play" . I didn't see the degree you are talking about but, were talking about 2 years older/bigger. How did your team /teams do?

Has nothing to do with 2 years old and bigger. Letting them play is OK but they seemed to be out of position more and more as the day went on and slow to stop the after the whistle pushing, shoving and silly stuff that escalate into more. I assume you liked the seeding process ? Congrats on your second place finish

I try not to be critical of the officiating when we head stateside as I realize often different points of emphasis or interpretation leads to calls being made differently to what we are used to. Having said that the officiating was a bit inconsistent. We tend to see better officiating in tourneys in the Cities. Our own officials can also be quite inconsistent at pee wee and squirt levels.

Old Goalie - thanks for the kind words. I will pass them along to the coaches. The level of play this weekend was pretty good. Made for some good games.

I agree that there seemed to be something wrong with a team that lost winning the tiebreaker over two teams without a loss. Perhaps the shutout could have been used as a tiebreaker without adding a point to their totals to create the tie.

Seeding worked out well for us. Personally I've never seen 3 pts for the shut-out before. Back to the refs-Didn't see a ton of missed offsides, icing, things that indicate refs being out of position. Now that you bring up the fact, they were somewhat slow after the whistle.

I have firsthand knowledge that the point system for next years BTB tourney will be corrected. As far as the officiating....that is not a reflection on the Storm Association, but rather the pool of available officials from the Duluth area who were available. Yes they may have seemed to let the kids play.....but would you rather have seen a lot more penalties? In the Winter season the quality of officiating in District 11 is worse than what I saw this weekend of watching twelve games.

"Let the kids play" I agree with. Officiating was fine for us ('98's). The point system was a joke. '98 Finals obviously should have bee TBay vs Rockets. Glad the system will be changed next year. Great rinks, great city, (should be) great tourney next year.

Observer- He lives in t-bay. My kids had a great time up there. That is both the 98 and the 00. 00 nats only won one game. They still had a blast. Never been to a perfect tourny. Thanks to all who put it together.

I can't find game results but wasn't there at least 1 other undefeated team other than Thunder and Rockets. Anyway, thunder was good team who deserved everything they achieved.

Not picking on the officiating but it looked like they got tired and ended up out of position. Not asking for more penalties and liked that they let them play.

CCM Flyers had a win and two ties. Undefeated but still only 4 pts. I think Reebok had the tie breaker on them if you took away the point for the shutout. They had more wins, fewer goals against, a shutout, didn't play head to head. Nats benefitted from playing the only pointless team, but you can't penalize a team for their schedule.

The Flyers had 2 goals disallowed during a pool play game that resulted in a tie. One of the goals was on a breakaway and neither ref had a skate over the blueline when they waved it off. Unacceptable to be a full zone behind the play and miss an obvious goal.

Again- all in all, great city, great tournament. Point system screwed '98 Rockets and Flyers. I think we all agree 'Nats had no business in finals.
And yes, Tbay was a good squad. Glad they won, a little suprised they didn't route the 'Nats, but they won! Congrats.
