I was just about to ask this question! I'm also curious, I think they are doing the Hockey Day games and thats it. But who knows maybe they will pick it up again.

As of right now there aren't going to be any. FSN didn't make any money on the games. They might be doing some of the bigger games, like the Schwan's tournament and a few big games, but I don't think so.

I just noticed that ESPN will be televising 4 high school football games the next few days. It made me wonder if FSN would be televising any of our high school hockey games this year as well. It would be very disappointing if they didn't make another attempt at it. Sit down and figure it out. I really think televising high school hockey in our region should be seccessful. Personally, I think more people watched high school hockey on TV than the Timberwolves.

As JBone said, FSN quit showing HS Hockey because they weren't making any money off it. Advertisers didn't step up and pay for commerical airtime during the HS games, so subsequently, they pulled the hockey off.

I'm as bummed as anyone, but it's market-driven.

it is not hard to raise enough money buying "local" advertising for the two teams involved. If you gave WBL and Blaine the date of dec 12, one year in advance they could sell enough local business add spots to make it profitable for FSN. So if you want it back contact FSN and say we will be your sales force, bring it on, what do we need to do.

Really? Let's put it this way: I've got a DVR, so will never watch a Twins replay. There are plenty of people who don't who might have missed the game the day before (or the afternoon game), and are watching it. So there's that group. Plus, there are people from the Twin Cities to International Falls to Moorhead to Duluth to Winona to Luverne who like the Twins. Can the same be said for, say, Eden Prairie vs. Edina? Why would people in Warroad care about that game? Or Warroad vs. Roseau? Sure, there's some "what are these teams all about" interest in the Twin Cities, but overall, most of the state doesn't care. Then the big one, production cost. First off, the Twins replay is already produced and therefore is free to throw on the air. You're seriously suggestion that rather than throw on a Twins replay FSN should spend the money for two announcers, maybe three camera guys, a producer, a director, and other crew? You really can't see how this is a bad idea? I mean, I care and want to watch Blaine vs. Centennial (and I live in Bemidji), but I may be one of, at most, a handfull in this town. Compare that to the thousands up here that care about the Twins...

I agree.

Say I own the local ice cream shop or the hardware store. Why do I care about spending money to advertise to the entire state, when no one from Warroad is driving to Blaine just to buy a sundae or a 2x4? Sure, there are some businesses (hotels, resorts, destination stores, in Warroad's case, Marvin windows) that would benefit from state-wide advertising, but not as many as you think. Plus, they would have to do it every year or two or three. What you are asking, essentially, is for the local businesses to provide a charitable contribution on behalf of the high school hockey team.

You are right. Your perspective makes much more sense. Obviously I have a stronger passion towards high school hockey than to Major League Baseball.

It looks like they will be doing a lot more preps sports this year, they haven't said anything about hockey but it looks like they will be doing that come winter. They also will be doing a half-hour show about prep sports weekly.

I believe they will continue broadcasting the hockey games over the FSNorth website much like they did tonight with the football. They are still in talks about television broadcasts, but we'll see in the near future most likely.

I for one would watch any two high school hockey teams play over the Timberwolves (even if they were playing the Heat or the Lakers). I sure hope thay find a way to bring HS hockey back. Could a "pay to play on TV" type of deal could work with boosters collecting the money? Any idea what it would take dollar wise to make it profitable for FSN?

In reference to the quote above yes that is the word on the street about the coverage of HS Hockey but please do not forget about the MSBN and FoxPreps of the world who have been covering and will continue to cover on an expanded schedule HS School hockey!

We have partnered with FoxPreps to help promote HS Sports across the area and are excited to say that we will be covering hockey again with a lot more video coverage. Just check our football schedule as we have had a number of video games this year and look for this to roll over into the winter sports seasons as well.
