8-0 final I think. I thought Breck would win but not by that much. Is Breck looking good or is Maht down this year?

I was at the Breck game from beginning to end. I am not a parent or alumni, just enjoy watching. My observations:

For two teams that each returned about the same number of varsity players 8-9 from last year (from MN Hockey Hub Book), Breck's 8th-10th graders were really huge for them. Mahtomedhi finished 4th in the state tourney so I was expecting a pretty good game.

Wesley Iverson scored with his electric speed and had another goal. He is really a great player in my opinion and very physical.

He and his linemates, great 1st line.

Keegan Iverson (8th grade, 9th grade age), is now playing defense and had two nice rushes and set up two or three goals. He is very special and big and strong for a 14 year old kid.

Thomas Lindstrom and Matt Colford (leading scorers on JV last year) both had a couple of points and looked good on the second line. They are both sophomores.

Derek Wiitala (9th) is one of five regular Defensemen playing and will improve as season progresses.

Anyway, they outshot them 31-19 and had many more penalties to kill off, so they outcome was never in doubt.

Marshall did not play in that game last year.

I am taking the side of "YES"; Blake has Bullock and a few others, but this Breck team's firepower will be hard to stop; much depends on goaltending, but Iverson, Andrle and Opperman will be scoring lots of goals.

I watched Blake last Friday night and Breck last night. Blake will beat Breck this year. Blake is much deeper, bigger, and stronger. Will be a good game but Blake is better this year. Mahtomedi looked really bad last night. Not deserving of a top 20 ranking.

I attended the Breck game last night. Just curious to see how the defending state champs look this year after losing a number of strong players who graduated. T

Offense
Wes Iverson, Opperman, Anderlee junior line looked very good. Iverson and Opperman are very fast and will put alot of pucks in the net.

Lindstrom line (All sophs) looked very good. Will only get better as season progresses.

Third line did a nice job with Zozel scoring on a great shot.

Defense
This was a concern coming into the season with only 2 returners.

Rudnick-Very physical and strong. Really hard shot. Will be one of the best defenders in Class A.

Cernea-Solid player who makes all of the plays

Teggmeyr-Shattuck transfer- Very solid and made all of the plays

2 youngsters
Wittala-(9th grade) Wayzata product-Very poised for a ninth grader. A good stay at home defensemen who made nice decisions with the puck.

Keegan Iverson(8th grade) (Wes' little brother) Not little at all. He was the biggest guy on the ice (6 ft 200lbs)- Watch out for this kid. He is a special player. Very poised and uses his size to his advantage. Very offensive. Will put up alot of points this year.

Goalie-Maccormack-Played really well last night. Key to Breck's ultimate success this year.

Breck will be a very good team by the end of the season. I've heard Blake is the favorite in this section. I'm hoping to go see the Blake vs Cretin game this Thursday to see how Blake measures up.

Good luck to all of the teams!
