Edina Tournament

Post by HShockeywatcher »

While there are definitely two teams heavily favored to win this tournament and most would say the final game will decide the winner, it would seem things should be competitive this year.

The 4 teams come in with a combined record of 14-2 to date. We should be seeing some good hockey in Edina this weekend.

It's a round-robin tournament. There is no final (championship) game.

This last game with EP and Edina has had so much home cooking over the last four or five years that I've come to the conclusion that EP has half the chance to win this one that they do any other game of the year, but nonetheless, I will go with EP to win again because of talent. The zebras need to step up their game this time around, though.
EP two out of three.

4 or 5 years of biased refs. Snap out of it!!! All these refs will go out of their way to secure an Edina victory??? Did you just move to Minnesota????

They're just jumping to conclusions. ER and GR have their chance this weekend to take one of the two 'big dogs' down. Which will essentially make either ER or GR the REAL winner(s) of the round robin games.

Is this a tournament where games that the MSHSL will officially consider a tie are continued to play to get a winner for the sense of the tournament, or is this "tournament" simply 4 teams playing a round robin of games?

What is attendance like in these games? Debating going to some, but from what I remember of the rink, if there is good turnout, it may be a tight fit. I've seen the games on TV in the past, but haven't gone to any.

This issue should be talked about more often as it is hands down the most biased location for any outside team to scratch, claw and hammer out a win. 7 on 5 like no other venue.

The games are definitely worth going to watch. Not much of a buzz for Edina-Rapids, Edian-Elks but Edina-EP is a maxed out affair. Get out and support the Elks and 'Injuns' they need it :D :D

There was a call last year where Rau clearly hit the back upper bar inside the net and it caromed out. Everyone knew it was a goal and celebrated but the refs called it off. It is hands down the most biased location in the state.

Yet the same teams keep coming year after year after year.

That's because they have a spot in one of the better holiday tournaments.

Perceptive. I've heard goofy stuff does happen at Braemar but some of the stories involve the off ice officials (dads) not the on ice ones. Refs at Edina games may like Edina but they are from all over the metro.

Roseau (subsitute any number of small towns here) refs are from Roseau cuz the next town is 100 miles away so I hear what you're saying.

And I'm fully aware of this, which is why I'm even more dumbfounded every time I see Edina steal a questionable game at home. The ice is obviously slanted their way, I don't know why the refs do that...

The hornets have gotten away with numerous late and hight hits through
the first two periods, so I'd have to agree totally. How about the two guys announcing the game for MyFox. Might as well give the state title to Edina right now as far as they're concerned. Must be a couple Edina grads.

1st and 3rd periods appeared to be evenly matched. As for the 2nd, Edina completely dominated. Good win for GR and a tough loss for Edina.
