Breck (5-0) vs Hill Murray (5-2) 12-29-10 5:30pm

Post by HShockeywatcher »

This will be an amazing private-school match up with both the winner and loser playing a great team the following day. Breck has shut out 4 of the 5 teams they have played this season and is the defending Class A champion, while Hill Murray has definitely played much better competition this season.

Hill Murray has played 5 of their games this season on the road while Breck has played all 5 of their games this season at home.

If they play as well as they did against WB, they should be able to win this game.

Breck has been nothing short of dominant all year. True they have played all of their games so far at home and the competition has been uninspiring, but none the less, they have been very effective. After the next three games it should be very clear as to where they stand not only in class A, but as an elite team in either class. Should be very interesting to see how STA and Breck compete with some of the top ranked teams in AA.

Last year or 08 were the Mustangs years to play in the Gold division. This years squad while talented will probably be overwhelmed by the talent, speed and coaching of the likes of Hill, Edina and DE. Interesting that this year there are not one, but two single A schools playing for GOLD. Whats up with that? To bad BSM and Wayzata aren't still in it.

I'm going with Hill in a 5-2 victory. The winner of Thursday's game (my pick is Edina vs Hill) will likely emerge as the Gold victors.

With all do respect, Breck is the most over-rated team in Minnesota. So I agree that the next three days will show where they stand in the elite or not so elite.

I couldn't disagree more. I would love to with who I support, but I cannot. Sure their competition isn't great, but they have shut out 4 of their 5 opponents this season. They have also won back to back state titles, playing against teams with amazing programs.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them win 2 games in the next 4 days.

Good luck Mustangs.

Flat,

They may well be over rated but we don't really know as they haven't really been challenged yet. But also keep in mind you have been saying they are overated the last few years, only to be proven wrong, year after year. Just sayin......

Last year they were good. Real good. This year they are not. Should not be in top ten in my opinion. The lack of coaching will soon show too.

For anyone to take Breck seriously, they must opt up to AA. As Cris Carter says...Come on man.....Stop continuing to roll over small towns in the small school division..Busch League

Going into this season I agreed with your assesment as I thought they would have dropped off substantially from the level they played at the past 2 years after losing so many players, but after watching all five games plus a scrimmage this year, they are WAY better than I - an admitted Breck supporter - thought they were going to be. What has happened is the second line which is made up of three kids that played JV last year have emerged as the top scoring line. It was apparent they had skills but they are scoring more than last years third line/this years 1st line of Anderle, Iverson and Opperman which nobody would have predicted. Are they ranked to high at #2? Maybe, but to say they aren't in the top ten of class A is crazy. Other than STA, who should be #1 all year, Breck should be favored in every other Class A matchup.

With that said, I'm still predicting a 4-3 Hill win.

Also, curious about the coaching comment.

Until Opperman gets his head out of clouds and starts to work with Iverson, they will get outscored by the sophmores all year

Nice call Flat. Breck got smoked. If they play like that again they are coming home 0-3. HM looked very good.

From anyone that watched this game; is this more a reflection on Breck or Hill?

After tomorrows games you'll have a pretty clear picture I'd think. But from my view, both. Hill looked fast, confident and well disciplined and Breck looked like the young team that they are. When they got down by three, you could see the wheels come off. This was clearly the wrong year for them to make their debut in the Gold bracket. 04, 08, or 09 would have been much wiser.

I went to Mariucci to see how the Class A teams would do against the big schools.

Even though Mtka isn't that good this year, the boys from St. Thomas should be proud of the way they played against this large AA school. They should have won this game. St. Thomas is the best Class A team I've seen this year.

As for Hill Murray vs Breck, Hill Murray looked good against a very young Breck team. Breck's goalie had a rough night giving up 8 goals on 26 shots with about 4 of them being pretty weak. Hill Murray isn't 8 goals better than Breck. I would say 3 to 4 goals better.

St. Thomas will beat Breck when they play and then will go on to win the Class A State Tourney. Breck will have a tough time getting past Blake in Sections this year, but will be the team to beat in 2011-12.

I was at the game. Thank god Coach Lechner had the three pass rule in midway thru the second or this could have been embarrassing!

I do also think that there are 9-10 teams better than Breck in Class A.

Delano, Blake, THRF, Hermantown,STA, Lourdes, Virginia, Duluth Marshall, Totino Grace, and my sleeper Detroit Lakes. So..this is why I dont think Breck should be in top 10.

I've been behind Flat on this one all year. Breck lost too many guys and they do not deserve a top 5 ranking maybe not even top 10 depending on how they do the rest of Schwanns.
