The Edina and Wayzata Tourney weekends are over and here's my weekly JGA top 10:
1. - Tonka. No change at the top this week. Tonka took home their second ‘ship of the year winning the Edina tourney for the second time in 3 years. Tonka advanced out of pool play with wins over Stillwater and Brookings, SD. Tonka did lose to Edina in pool play (see below) but earned the title with a 3-2 win over a hot EP team in the finals. Went 3-0-0 in league play last week but now sit in second place behind Wayzata in the Metro Hockey League because they have lost 3 fpp’s. I warned the frequent readers of this board a few weeks ago the Wayzata simply does not lose fpp’s and now Tonka may be the second team in two years to have a better overall league record, but end up second place, as Wayzata did this to Edina last season. Reside in 2nd place in the Metro League with 30 points through 11 games.
At the #2 spot I have Wayzata and EP -
2a. - Wayzata. They went 4-0-0 in league play since my last posting with wins over Burnsville, Champlin Park, Eagan and a fast fading Edina team. In their home tourney, they finished second in their pool and were scheduled to play Burnsville in the second championship bracket. No Wayzata Sunday results has been posted as of 6:00pm on Sunday. Are the Metro league leaders with 34 points through 12 games.
2b. - EP. Jump up into a tie at number #2 in my weekly rankings with impressive back-to back weekend tourney championship game appearances. In their tournament last weekend they played Edina in the finals, but bb has been unable to determine who the winner was due to lack of internet information. Anyone help me here? In the Edina tourney this weekend, EP advanced out of pool play with a perfect 3-0-0 record with wins over Blaine, Centennial and Eagan. Their lone league win was also over Eagan this past week. EP now has to play catch-up in league play as most top teams have played 10 or more league games to EP’s seven games.
4. - Lakeville. The streak in the southern metro continues with Lakeville now at 8 league wins and counting. The eight wins put the kitties up into third place in league play. This past week, they downed Centennial, White Bear, Blaine and Wessy’s. In the Wayzata tournament they won their pool with a 2-0-0 record, but lost to WBL 5-4 in the semi’s. Not sure of their third place game. Lakeville is sitting in 3rd place with 29 points.
Note to braggen: your Centennial game result has not been posted. I suggest you have your coach/manager resend the game sheet.
5. - Burnsville. They went 1-1-0 this past week in league play, with a win over Wessy’s and a loss to Wayzata. Burnsville also finished second in their pool at the Wayzata tourney and my projected championship semi-final between Burnsville and Wayzata turned into a 2nd tier semifinal. This team is winning the games they should and just coming up a bit short against the top teams. Currently sit in 4th place with 25 points.
6. - Edina. They are heading south in the rankings right now. (I can’t see them dropping any lower than this.) They lost their only Metro game of the week versus Wayzata last Thursday night 3-2. Knowing that it was Wayzata’s fourth league game of the week, I thought Edina might steal a win at the Plymouth rink as it was their only game. It sounded good on paper, but I was wrong. (It was a good game, so I was right with that). In their home tournament, they went 1-2-0 in pool play but they were the first MN team to beat Tonka. The next two games were duds for the Hornets as they lost to Stillwater 2-0 (remember I mentioned the Stillwater goalie being able to steal some games in an earlier posting) and Brookings, SD; 4-2. To their credit, the pool that Edina was in was a toss-up and they did defeat Tonka who went on to win the title. This makes it 3 years in a row that Edina has not won the Reimann. Currently sit in 5th place with 23 points.
7. White Bear Lake - went 1-1-0 last week with a win over Wessy’s and a loss to Lakeville. In the Wayzata tourney, WBL advanced to the finals with a rematch win over Lakeville 5-4. The Bears currently reside in 6th place with 21 points.
8. - Stillwater. Continue to win an occasional game against a top team, but other than their goalie, have not been consistent. The Ponies didn’t have a league game last week as they played in the EP and Edina tournaments. Stillwater also has played fewer games and start of stretch of 6 games in 10 nights starting Tuesday. The next 6 games will make or break Stillwater’s league season as they play the top four teams: Tonka, Wayzata, EP and Lakeville during the 6-game stretch.
9. - Centennial. They went 1-2-0 in the Edina tournament with their lone win coming over Eagan. In last week’s league play, they went 0-2-0 losing to top ranked Tonka and #4 Lakeville. The Cougars are currently sitting in a 7th place tie with Jefferson with 19 points.
10. – Jefferson. This week’s #10 team is the Jags. After a year off of JGA play, the jags are currently sitting in a tie with Centennial at the #7 spot.

bb,
Another great post!!! I look forward to reading these rankings and hearing what a non bias hockey fan has to say!!! Thanks for that!!
On the centennial game there was a controversy on whether or not they got their fair play point which is why it is not updated.
Now onto our squad, this next span of games ( Edina, Stillwater Burnsville) should give us an indicator on where our team is at! Hopefully it goes well!

blueblood,
Cheers for putting these up every week. You make following the league a lot easier with the rankings. Hockey culture just isn't the same out here in the Bay Area. Glad to hear that EP seems to finally be clicking. Just a few more weeks and teams will be gearing up for final league placement and then our favorite time o' the year, regions. Can't wait.
