Benilde Leaving North Suburban for Hockey
Just wondering if anyone knows if this is BSM's last year in the North Suburban? The Boys don't play everyone twice now and I don't think they have EVER lost a game in the North Suburban in 6 years.
Could they go independent just for hockey? In other sports they do face some competition from Totino, Cooper (basketball), SLP (Soccer), etc.
Anyone have any detailed information?

Why would you say that? Do you think St Louis Park, St Francis and Irondale somehow ENJOY playing the West Metro Mercenary All-Stars twice a year?mulefarm wrote:It would be nice if BSM, AHA and Hill all played in the Lake. This would really be a great league. Probably won't happen, there conference probably won't let them out.
Because the school belongs to a conference and has to follow the by-laws, so they don't have a choice. They probably could petition to opt out in hockey, but the conference would have to approve.muckandgrind wrote:Why would you say that? ...and that conference is made up of the schools it represents. If they wanted out, I assume they would just need to petition the Northern Suburban Conference (the schools), and possibly the MSHSL, and ask out.mulefarm wrote:Because the school belongs to a conference and has to follow the by-laws, so they don't have a choice. If a school can, in fact, have just a single program (Boy's Hockey) move out, then I would think they would have a good shot. If it's all or nothing, then I guess it would be tougher....because it's not like BSM dominates at ALL sports.
St. Louis Pak and St. Francis opted to play BSM once this year in conference play for a 4 point game but evidentally Irondale ENJOYS getting smoked by the "west metro mercenary all-stars" because they opted tp play them twice. I never heard anyone taking shots at Benilde back in the day when they were not that good. Now that the program has developed into a winner the complaints and cheap shots fly. Oh my how times have changed.muckandgrind wrote:Why would you say that? I'm not complaining, nor did I consider that a "cheap shot". I actually respect the fact that BSM puts on their big boy pants and plays in the AA sections (unlike some other private schools in the metro).puck81 wrote:St. Louis Pak and St. Francis opted to play BSM once this year in conference play for a 4 point game but evidentally Irondale ENJOYS getting smoked by the "west metro mercenary all-stars" because they opted tp play them twice. But let's face it, they ARE an all-star team made up of mercenary players (Just like HM, STA and others). If you want to call that a "cheap shot", go right ahead....but you can't deny that it's the truth. I doubt these kids are flocking to BSM to escape the horrible education systems in Edina and Wayzata.

Shots at your team are a pretty good indicator that your team's made it into the top tier in the state.puck81 wrote:St. Louis Pak and St. Francis opted to play BSM once this year in conference play for a 4 point game but evidentally Irondale ENJOYS getting smoked by the "west metro mercenary all-stars" because they opted tp play them twice. Success bring scrutiny. You learn to live with it. Definitely worth the price...

Perhaps they are escaping the fact that government schools expelled GOD years ago and they also want religous education as well a top education in a private catholic school. Jake Horton was not consisdered an all-star when he arrived at BSM but has been developed by a great group of coaches. In fact BSM has developed a number of players over the years whom the government schools did not want and they are not all from Wayzata and Edina. I do deny your "mercenary " comment because it is not the truth, only YOUR opinion.muckandgrind wrote:I'm not complaining, nor did I consider that a "cheap shot". Karl: I do take the "shots" as a compliment but will fend off so called "truths" in a respectful debate which, for the most part, this site exemplifies.

If the majority of the kids who arrived at BSM had attended private schools from K-8....then I might agree with you. However, I know that not to be the case. There's nothing illegal or immoral about what's going on....just stating the facts. Good for them and good for the program.puck81 wrote:Perhaps they are escaping the fact that government schools expelled GOD years ago and they also want religous education as well a top education in a private catholic school. Jake Horton was a helluva player BEFORE he arrived at BSM. I'm not saying he hasn't developed further as a HS player, but don't make it sound as if he was some B2-calibre player before he donned the Red Knight sweater and we need to praise the BSM coaching staff for turning a average player into a really good player....he's ALWAYS been a really good player. Just as most of the players who come to play for them: Daly, Besse, Labosky, Moore, etc.

Moore went to private (religious) school for before BSM
Besse was at Breck
Labosky came from edina
1/4 have no private or religious background.
