Suburban East Section Matchups

Post by WHAFightingSaints »

Tuesday's SEC Finals

Section 7AA
#4 Elk River 2
#5 Forest Lake 0
The Rangers finish the season with a shutout loss

#8 Park-Cottage Grove 6
#9 Rosemount 2

Thursday’s Action
Section 3AA

#5 Woodbury (13-12-0) at #4 Hastings (12-12-1) 7:30 PM at Hastings Civic Arena
Teams split during the regular season, Woodbury won the first matchup 3-2 with Hastings winning the second 8-3
Hastings has the leading scorer in the conference and a potent top line. Woodbury relies on their goaltending to win games while they get consistently outshot by double digits.
Woodbury:
Goals per game: 2.92
Goals against: 3.12
Power Play % 20.69
Penalty Kill % 79.80
Points Leader: Pederson 25
Goalie: Moore 2.68 GAA
Erickson 3.13 GAA
Hastings:
Goals per game: 3.48
Goals against: 3.20
Power Play % 26.04
Penalty Kill % 81.37
Points Leader: Nelson 54
Goalie: Piotrowski GAA 3.17
Thomas GAA 3.31
#6 East Ridge (10-15-0) at #3 Cretin-Derham Hall (13-8-4) 7:00 at Highland Arena
These two teams are playing their best hockey at the right time, East Ridge has played much better in their own zone as of late which is good timing because they are facing a Cretin team that is firing on all cylinders the last few weeks. I still think the Raptors could pull the upset if the Raiders look past them. These teams split the regular season with the Raptors pulling the upset early in the season 2-1 and the Raiders bouncing back big with an 8-2 victory. Somehow the Raptors will have to contain Cretin’s top line to have any shot, a difficult task as of late.
East Ridge:
Goals per game: 2.92
Goals against: 2.96
Power Play % 19.79
Penalty Kill % 84.09
Points Leader: Walz 33
Goalie: McDonough GAA 2.85
Cretin:
Goals per game: 4.24
Goals against: 3.56
Power Play % 31.20
Penalty Kill % 76.62
Points Leader: Kinne 49
Goalie: Schneider GAA 3.45
#8 Park-Cottage Grove (6-18-2) at #1 Eagan (17-6-2) 7:30 at Eagan Civic Arena
Probably the end of the line for the Wolpack, nice to see them get a section win over Rosemount.
Eagan:
Goals per game: 5.48
Goals against: 2.00
Power Play % 37.76
Penalty Kill % 83.16
Points Leader: Zajac 51
Goalie: Bodeker GAA 2.22
Park-Cottage Grove:
Goals per game: 2.84
Goals against: 3.88
Power Play % 12.00
Penalty Kill % 80.00
Points Leader: Jeske 28
Goalie: Harer GAA 3.93
(Winners advance to play Saturday at State Fairgrounds Coliseum)

Saturday’s Action

Section 3AA Semifinals (TBD)

Section 4AA (All games at Aldrich Arena)

#2 White Bear Lake (18-5-2) vs. #7 Mounds View 8-13-4) 1:00
Mounds View surprised the Bears with an early season 3-3 tie but were manhandled in the second contest 6-0. The Mustangs earlier in the year played the better teams tough but seemed to fade down the stretch. White Bear is coming in playing some sound defensive hockey which will make it tough for the Mustangs to spring the upset.
White Bear Lake:
Goals per game: 4.20
Goals against: 2.00
Power Play % 38.03
Penalty Kill % 73.81
Points Leader: Wahlin 53
Goalie: Schletty GAA 1.87
Mounds View:
Goals per game: 2.56
Goals against: 3.40
Power Play % 16.85
Penalty Kill % 70.42
Points Leader: Anderson 30
Goalie: Hjelm GAA 3.20
#3 Stillwater (16-7-2) vs. #6 Tartan (12-10-1) 5:00
The Ponies come in limping having only won once in their last four games; offensively they are in shambles having only scored seven goals in their last six games including being shutout twice. Not a good time to lose your offense, they will need to rely on their quality goaltending to advance beyond the semi’s.
Stillwater:
Goals per game: 2.76
Goals against: 2.28
Power Play % 19.15
Penalty Kill % 78.50
Points Leader: Corbett 21
Dochniak 21
Goalie: Cates GAA 1.91
Defiel GAA 2.72
# 5 Roseville (12-8-5) vs. #4 North St. Paul (15-9-1) 7:00
This game should be a nail biter, Roseville has the advantage in the defensive zone while the Polars have the stronger offense, if Lehr is on top of his game and the Polars are buzzing it could be an overtime thriller.
Roseville:
Goals per game: 2.72
Goals against: 2.24
Power Play % 22.47
Penalty Kill % 85.42
Points Leader: Effinger 22
Goalie: Lehr GAA 1.78
Comiskey 2.54
North St. Paul:
Goals per game: 4.20
Goals against: 3.40
Power Play % 35.48
Penalty Kill % 85.15
Points Leader: McCarver 47
Goalie: Manteuffel GAA 3.62
