Warroad, repeat state champ??
I would have to say that I believe Warroad will repeat at State again this year. How could they not?? Pretty sad competition, I think the State Championship was played between Crookston and Warroad last week with Warroad winning in OT 3-2. Good luck to the Warriors and Section 8 represention!!

"Pretty sad competition", what they are in Class A. I don't think they are in the right place if what they want is competition. I think Class A would be a good field and competitive tournament if you had Warroad, Breck, and Blake in AA. Class AA would have been better as well.
Nothing against the players but a repeat might mean it is time to follow a past A champion BSM up to Class AA.

warroad??
warroad is arguably the best team in state. However, crookston is not the second best class "a" team. they are good and it is extremely difficult to beat a good team three times in a season as warroad found out.
the competition isn't sad, what is sad is the top eight teams can't make it to state, but that is the way it always is. but that is part of the fun, upsets..... if the best team always win why play?
because of this i would be willing to bet ssp will show up tomorrow and give it its best shot. it could be more interesting than most anticipate...

Pretty hard to make this argument when they lost both of their games to Minnetonka and lost their only game against Edina.cigar wrote:warroad is arguably the best team in state.

Re: warroad??
I agree with you. I think it is safe to say that after two wins over Warroad Tonka is better. It is to bad though that both teams were missing some of their best players playing over seas for the US teams for the second match up. It would have been fun to see how these great teams match up twice against each other full strengthMNHockeyFan wrote:Pretty hard to make this argument when they lost both of their games to Minnetonka and lost their only game against Edina.cigar wrote:warroad is arguably the best team in state.

I think that if you are going to compare Layla and Karley then you are agreeing with most people's opinions. They are both VERY GOOD players. Discussing which one is better is fine as long as you don't diminish the abilities of the other. that's all....hometown warrior wrote:Warroads repeat comes at the expense of all the youth teams there allstars played for BEFORE THEY MOVED. If they dont repeat, it would serve them all right. Layla better than Karley? really?
Re: Warroad, repeat state champ??
They'll need to score at least twice if they want to win as they're down 1-0 after 2 periods.#2 Hockey Mom wrote:I would have to say that I believe Warroad will repeat at State again this year. A lot of expectations on this team so we'll see how tight they grip the sticks in the 3rd.

I'm sorry but I completely disagree with this rationale. So because a school is good at a certain sport they should move up? Classification is by enrollment for a reason. Should they change it so they classify schools by winning percentages?Nostalgic Nerd wrote:I wish all of the successful schools in A would move up. It's a pretty dull tournament on the whole.

Tried that in the boys - I guess people hated it. I think that if the goal is to get communities participating that wouldn't otherwise, enrollment or winning percentages can work - you'd probably get more schools that otherwise wouldn't be there with winning percentages actually.siouxforce19 wrote:I'm sorry but I completely disagree with this rationale. No team should have to do anything, but from a philosophical POV, yes. Any team that wants to be regarded as the best plays the best.siouxforce19 wrote:I'm sorry but I completely disagree with this rationale. I can splash in the rink puddles!
Convenient, but not true. The only reason it's an old subject is because they've been doing it since the '70s, at least on the boys side. The best way to end the discussion is to admit it and move on. MSHSL doesn't seem to mind, and that's really all that matters.goal4it wrote:Drop this old subject, THEIR 'OLD TEAMS' DIDN'T WANT THEM BUDDY!!! It is what it is, and Warrod Rocks!!! Oh if they admitted to it them it would be over? Right eveyone has players that didnt grow up in said town.Puckguy19 wrote:Convenient, but not true. No, it wouldn't be over, but it would be above board. Yes, some do have players that didn't grow up in said town, but with the exception of the private schools, it's just not as consistent as in Warroad.25 sheet power wrote:Oh if they admitted to it them it would be over? Or everyone just expects that Warroad is the culprit so everyone looks the other way when someone else is involved, but if Warroad has a player (that WANTS to move there on their own) nobody thinks twice about playing the "recruiting" card. Has anyone done any investigating of their own, or brought it up to the MSHSL? If not, let it go or bring facts to the state don't sit on a message board complaining...Puckguy19 wrote:No, it wouldn't be over, but it would be above board. Many HS teams have players that didn't come up through their youth program, didn't ever (or don't currently) live in the school area, etc. They do have to follow the MSHSL rules. Recruiting is not supported by the MSHSL and it does happen. Bottom line is if the student-athlete is in the best situation personally, then I think that is what is important. Some of the best teams in girls HS hockey history had open enrollment, move-in players, etc. It is what it is.mn miracle man wrote:Or everyone just expects that Warroad is the culprit so everyone looks the other way when someone else is involved, but if Warroad has a player (that WANTS to move there on their own) nobody thinks twice about playing the "recruiting" card. One needs to only follow the procession of kids that attend Warroad's Summer Hockey Camp, probably a good one I would not doubt, and then whom on that list moves to Warroad... There's no doubt that kids and parents get talked to... college scholarship money has been mentioned...
I am sure that Little Falls and Cambridge/Isanti would have loved to have kids stay and play hockey, but it did not happen...
Warroad was a wonderful team this year. Congrats to the girls, they were the best of Class A. Take nothing away from this team, they were very good. May the girls that go on to play college hockey have great careers...
It is just a frustrating issue in our high school system... that yes, gets talked about every year, over and over... That discussion will not stop until MSHSL does something about it...

So if mshsl were to call say, Sylvesters, about recruiting. Do you suppose they would say "yep, we were recruited and my dad was given a job at Marvins". Check the rosters, what other public school has more kids from other youth associations on the team, than there own. MSHSL are definately turning there head the other way. Too bad, local kids had to take a back seat.
