Where'd Kautz go?
Hey, i'm new to the forum so give me a little break if i'm bad at this. I live in owatonna and i'm a big Express and huskies fan. I've watched a lot of their games, i've noticed they're doing pretty well but i'm just wondering where their young goalie Brock Kautz went. He is the best goalie i've seen in a while and i was wondering why he doesnt get time anymore. is he leaving? back to high school? USHL? The express could use this kid, he's fantastic. I was just wondering since they're leaving........

Interesting first post.
Was?,

4 wins
7 losses
Best you've seen? Anyone know why he left Rochester for the NAHL?

Just judging by the link observer provided and seeing the stats it looks like simple math. It appears they have a better goalie in Williams and Kautz is the back upobserver wrote:Interesting first post.

Good question.
The Kautz move to the NAHL was a two edged sword.
If he performed, his stock would rise and maybe the next year he would be a NA starter or a US backup.
He didn't put up the numbers and didn't get the time. Now he may be in a little limbo - will the new Texas owners hold on to him, let him walk, etc. Will another NA team want to take a shot with a new crop of '92 and '93 goalies coming out of high school/18U?
There are a lot of MN high school '93 and '94 goalies that are probably better that have chosen to stick around and play high school. Their stock will continue to rise.
The question is, was the move to the NAHL and leave high school hockey a good move for Kautz?
I wouldn't be surprised to see him backstopping Century again next year.

Talk to Brocks dad early last week he is doing fine. He spent a day in the ER with a virus receiving IV's from being so dehydrated. The experience has been great. Charles Williams has been playing great and it's been hard to get in. I don't think they would change there decision at all, with the game and practice time he has gotten. It has been far better than anyting he would have gotten in High School.

Would he still be eligable for high school hockey after leaving for juniors? Isn't it a "one way" ticket out of MSHL?

I figured he'd try to stay in juniors and even if the Express move i'd still be a fan (long distance of course). I talked to some people from Rochester who know of him and who've seen him play. The main reason i asked is because i talked to a dad of a kid who played with Brock last season at Century and he said he was considering Lourdes? Doesn's he have a brother on Century? In my mind it wouldn't make sense for a kid to go back to High School hockey, let alone a different school, i would think he'd like to play with his brother. Can he even go back?
He won't have HS eligibility left anywhere but Owatonna. He attends OHS this year, so this would be his lost year for transferring. If he moved back to a Rochester school, he would have to lose another year, so. . .
He will be fine in juniors next year. I would be surprised if he isn't traded to Austin, Coulee Region, or Alex. He's a Minnesota high school kid, the new owners aren't likely to force him to Texas. If they did, the only thing that would limit is his ability to play within the NAHL. He could still (theoretically) move up to the USHL or choose to step down to the MNJHL. He has done well this year as a HS junior. Remember, this is a 17 year old playing in a league of 20 year olds at a position that is historically dominated by older players. He is behind Williams because the name of the game is "Win Baby" and Williams places the Express in a better place to win.

The only exception to losing a year is if the whole family makes a housing move. His family stayed in Rochester, so he would be out of luck unless they move to a different school district.Huskiesfan16 wrote:Are you allowed to transfer back during the summer when school isn't in session and still play that same year?
