St Thomas Academy (1-0) @ Hill-Murray (1-2) 12-10-11 7:30pm
In the last 5 years, St Thomas and Hill Murray have split the series three times and Hill Murray has swept the other two times. The last two wins the Cadets got against the Pioneers were at Aldrich, so that's a bit promising for them in this game, but ultimately Hill-Murray will be the favorite.
Starting 0-2, Hill scored 12 goals in their last game; this looks to be a good game. Can this be the year St Thomas wins both games against Hill-Murray?

I don't think so. My guess is that it will be an even split due to STA being down this year as they simply lost two much talent. It will be an intersting game though.HShockeywatcher wrote:In the last 5 years, St Thomas and Hill Murray have split the series three times and Hill Murray has swept the other two times. STA - HM
Hill-Murray got a break last year when this game was snowed out. They were 2-2 and had lost to Burnsville and BSM. They were a much better team when they beat STA twice in close games Jan. 27 & Feb. 19. This year they are 1-2 with the same losses. Both teams have a long way to go to overcome the turnover from last years teams. It will be a good test but probably not tell us much about how good both will be in a month or so. Unfortunately I will be at the Gopher game tonight. I'll be looking forward to the rematch on Jan. 26.

Hill scored 12 vs Sibley, not Duluth East...I like St Thomas in this one because they are deeper on Defense but hope it is another great game...good luck to both teams.

This was a very intense game to watch. Even though St. Thomas clearly had more offensive chances than Hill, the play was back and forth for a lot of it and Hill was able to capitalize on the chances they did get. A very good performance by Hill's goalie Dugas; he held them in it at the end when the Pioneers were playing down a man 6-4.
Hill has work to do on breakouts and discipline; they often tried to force the puck up the sideboards when the space just wasn't there. Like the last few games, they also took a number of penalties that cost them precious offensive opportunities.
St. Thomas has a strong forecheck and the ability to force turn overs. They applied constant pressure, often being the first to the puck and winning the battles.
Looking forward to the next matchup. Barring any major upsets, the next game could determine conference champion.
