St. Thomas Academy vs. Shattuck St. Mary's

Post by rainier »

Let's hear some score predictions. Looks like STA did a solid job of hanging with Shattuck last season, wonder if they can this time too. Of course some of us will enjoy watching STA take a beating from another private school with even more resources and players to choose from, but I do give credit to STA for scheduling them. Thoughts?

I say 7-2 SSM.

STA may compete decently with them but only because they're a more physical team. This Shattuck team is very skilled as always though so I still predict SSM 8 STA 1

The Cadets' biggest issue last year was playing 20 minute periods. Playing 17 minute periods they should be able to keep it closer.

I wonder if the more physical play of Shattuck will come into play with the recent infraction upgrades this weekend...

Ya gotta get Shattuck early in the year. Their fitness is better than most teams and they're tough. Teams can hang for a period, with excellent goaltending, but the second and third periods are more difficult. They're faster and stronger. Consider they won the tourney at the end of the Elite League season against a very solid all-star team. Will not be close. If they don't take their foot off the gas, and I've never seen them do that, 8-1.

I do not care.

If they win, it means nothing.
If they lose, by a lot or a little, it means nothing.

It is important to the players, coaches, student bodies and parents. But for Minnesota High School hockey, not so much.

STA vs. Shattuck

"Observer" is right on here.

SSM is a machine. They're very well coached, very fit, and committed to a very attractive brand of total hockey.

If they had to, they'd hit double figures on any HS team in MN. Instead, they'll roll four lines and three sets of defense--all the while focusing on improvement in all aspects of the game. The margin of victory may only be three goals, but they'll do whatever they want.

What is the difference between #1 ranked SSM Prep and #55 SSM AAA 18U ?
Is the latter their JV?

At least SSM does not use kids from AA high schools to play down to A. They have the class to not "cheat", they know they have would have an unfair advantage against public schools, so they don't play them. Their focus is not beating up on other high schools at all, their focus is the developing of the players and being the best.

It's going to be a BSM/Cooper result.

That's if SSM plays all three periods.

There was one other clown, BSM poster, but I can't remember the name.

He was a regular Howie Hanson.
