Section 8AA

Post by TheHockeyDJ »

Was a bit surprised to see Brainerd get such a convincing win over Roseau. Would have thought the Rams would play a closer game. It seems Moorhead has been the most consistent and Brainerd, Bemidji, and Roseau will win a key section game here and there and then follow it up with a head-scratching loss. What are the seeds looking like and potential semi-final match ups?

So far this year the Spuds have been more than "consistent" rapidsrapids, I would say they have been dominate in Section 8AA and the Mariucci Conference? Being undefeated in both. They still have section 8AA games against Roseau (Home), Bemidji (Away) and Brainerd (Away).

As of now the Spuds are the favorite. If they fail to make it to state I will consider this team a failure.
With remaining non-conference/section 8AA games against Benilde, Centennial, Grand Rapids, BLAINE and Hill Murray they should be ready for Section 8AA playoffs.

Seeding for 8AA as of 1-22

#1 Spuds
#2 Lumberjacks
#3 Warriors
#4 Rams

The Rams will be alright once tournament time begins. They had 2 bad minutes against Brainerd where the game got away, otherwise they outplayed them almost all day. Relying on Sophomores and Juniors, this little losing streak isn't too surprising.

And hopefully now our coaching staff realizes not to match our 3rd line with our weaker set of D against an opponents top line with 4 min left in the game, especially when we get the last change. Depth obviously isn't our strong suite this year.
