6AA

With a ton of big games in the section this week, I figured it would be nice to have a forum for predictions of the games and overall seedings. Very busy week for the Trojans!
Games this week: BSM at Wayzata, Wayzata at Eden Prairie, Tonka at Wayzata

If Wayzata keeps on losing, is there any chance Holy Family can swipe the 4th seed? Just out of curiosity..

I would think Hopkins would almost have a better chance the HF, as they beat Mound Westonka who HF lost to twice. However, if Wayzata beats Hopkins again there is really no chance for them to get #4.

No.

Keeps losing? They are 6-4 in the last week and the worst team they lost to is #(at worst)8 Moorhead. They also have a 4-0 win over Eden Prairie.

They have a tough week ahead of them but I wouldn't count them out of too many of the games this week. If they can manage a win in Eden Prairie, I'd say they're possibly as high as the 2 seed. Lots to see this week.

I dont' think HF get rated higher then Hopkins. However HF is probably a more dangerous opponent then Hopkins come playoffs. Not much talk about them all year. They have had a nice season thus far 16-6 with some good quality wins. Also not many of these 6AA teams have seen them play which could present a problem. They are an exciting offensive team to watch with some really good young talented players. There goaltending is good as well.

If Hopkins ends up as 5th seed, they will play the #4 (Wayzata) first.

HF as a 6th seed will mean that they will play #3 first (Benilde). That would be an interesting quarterfinal match-up between those two Catholic schools.

Which two teams would make for the biggest crowd in the finals at Mariucci?

I would think BSM and Tonka. BSM because they haven't been there in a while, and they would want to show their support for Jablonski. Tonka just seems to always have good support. I think that Eden Prairie would have a smaller crowd because they have been there so many times before.

EP students only support the hockey team if they can get out of class by doing so. Also Grant doesn't supply student busses like he does for the football team.

For as big a school as EP is, I've always been surprised at the number of people that go to watch their games, both students & adults/kids/families. Seems like the #'s watching should be MUCH higher than they are. Don't know if it's because there are SO many other teams & activities going on.

Just seems like it's not nearly as big as Edina or Minnetonka....just my thoughts.

I completely agree. Nothing makes me think of this more than the Section semifinal game last year at Braemar between Tonka and EP. They filled a total of 4 rows with students. It is weird to see that knowing that they have the largest enrollment in the state of MN.

I also agree that Tonka vs. BSM would bring a large crowd. Plus, The section 2 final will be a good game this year so many people will be there to see both.

Not to change the topic of this thread, but Edina could beat any team in their section by at least four.

While this may be true, there is a "Section 2AA" thread for such comments.

In Section 6, any team can beat anyone by any score on any night. It's all about what team they bring and how much they want to win.

I would maybe mend this statement to say in Section 6 any of the top four teams can beat anyone by any score on any night. It would take an upset bigger than the 1980 Miracle on Ice for a team like Minneapolis or Cooper to get past the first round.

I thought it was assumed I was talking about the top 4 teams

I assumed the same. We'll see all four in the semis.

That's is a huge win for BSM, however it throws the seedings into even more chaos. It once again turns into a bunch of what if situations. If EP beats Wayzata on Thursday then IMO BSM is locked in at 3 and Wayzata at 4 with the Tonka-EP game determining the 1 and 2 seed. However, with a Wayzata win on Thursday who knows?

I think there should be a Lake Conference Tournament, with the winner getting an automatic bid to the State Tournament.

things will always be talked in terms of automatic bids for state tournament. But IMHO that will never happen for one reason. If your going to win state you gotta go undefeated in the playoffs(sections and state). I dont know if thats fair but thats the way it is.

It was purely in jest. Well maybe mostly in jest. Kind of a modern day back door.

EP is a football school. Hockey not as important to the students

Also thinking about this scenario.. Wayzata wins on Thursday then they would have to be higher than EP, so does that slide EP to #4?? with bsm at 2 and wayzata at 3.. even though EP has a win against the eventual #1 seed tonka?? If this happens, the section 6 meeting will be a long one.

Say wayzata does win, but then EP beats Tonka in their second game? It would be very hard to put them at #4 then. Yes I know this is very unlikely, just looking at possibilities!

So Bsm would have to be #4 in that scenario... right? or does wayzata get the shaft? in this scenario, somebody is going to feel like they got screwed.
