A simply amazing hockey game goes FOUR OT's...

Mounds View 4 - Irondale 3 a few minutes into the fourth OT.

Gilliam McDonald stopped a ton of good scoring chances in the three previous OT's. Lindsay Wolter scored on a rebound.

Mounds View now faces Andover in the semi's.

After announcing for three hours, I am SPENT, but in a good way :D

Proves that Irondale belonged and probably was better than a 6 seed. I knew they would play their cross town rivals very tough. Sorry to see another McDonald finish her career at Irondale. Congrats to Mounds View who had a tough draw and gutted it out.

Sparlimb, upset with the seedings? Maybe they could have been seeded 5 instead of 6, but no higher than that. But the fact is, Irondale did not play many good teams. Had they scheduled better non conference competition, the SOS number may have been higher. They played 2 good teams all year, BSM twice and Wayzata, lost all three games. (OK, if some think the others were good too, I'm sorry for that statement, GR early) Just going off SOS. Sure they played BSM tough and tight, but BSM might not had looked at this game as tough competition and down played it, or played some JV players, not quite sure on that one, just maybe. MV seems to have a good team this year and a chance to win the section, but tough games wait for them, so we shall see. Most knew this was going to be a tough section to win this year. Sounds like it was a heck of a game last night. Interesting they played a 4 OT game last year against Blaine and came out on top on that one. In this 5AA this year, if you were not seeded #1, you had a tough first game which either team could have won. The 3 OT games proved that. Onto the next round, good luck to the girls moving on, good luck to the girls next step whose season ended. Pease.

I wasn't upset, per se. No matter what Irondale or anyone else is seeded, you still have to win the games to win the section. Irondale lost to Mounds View, so they are proven to not be the best team in the section. I just think people consistently downplay how good Irondale has been over the last 4 years because they play in a small conference. They've made state twice and that is pretty respectable in my book. Irondale's success has been fairly recent history, so my guess that is why Rodefeld hasn't switched to playing harder teams. They have been in the Edina Christmas tournament the last number of years, but they should be playing MV/Roseville/WBL/CR/Blaine as much as possible as those are close good teams. They have two more years of Sam Donovan, so they will continue to be a player in the section. Good luck to the rest of the teams...

Section 5aa has been a very tight section for the past couple of years. Last year the game between Centennial and Anoka went 5 overtimes. The game started at 8 p.m. and ended at 12:05 a.m. Anoka won 2-1. Both Goalies played outstanding as saves were 60-59. This year it looks like it is happening again. I think three of the 4 games went into overtime.
