Coaching Question Around the League?

Post by PASS-SHOOT-SCORE »

So my question is. How many HS Hockey head coaches coach multiple sports at their school? If so, what sports do they coach besides hockey? If they do coach more than one sport do you feel it is a good or bad thing for your program?

I bet far fewer coaches of multi-sports than years back when teachers were the main coaches.

There are still some out there though.

Bad? Well - I suppose they can't specialize on any one sport for off-season contact, focus in general, etc.

Good? Same as above. Kids burn-out and an over-focused coach might not be what's best.

I wonder how many coaches are even teachers anymore...

And if Hockey is unique as far as the split vs. other sports.

I think that is fairly common to be a HC in one sport, and asst in another. I think it's very rare to be a HC in more than one sport. There is just to many responsibilities to be able to do this for two sports.

I believe Guider assists Blaine in football, and heads the girls varsity hockey. In addition he's going to assist USA Hockey's U18 women's team.

I believe Hayes heads boys soccer & girls hockey for Anoka.

Both are teachers.
