The Tourney was legit. If you wanna lay the blame on anyone it should be Eden Prairie Eagles. If the 2011 State Champs would of beaten Armstrong Falcons, Benilde would of had a difficult time just getting to state out of 6AA. Plus they were killing off a penalty against in Edina in the last 2 minutes of the Quarterfinals and still won the game. So you can't say the referees screwed anyone really. That being said though maybe the Red Knights did get the luck of the draw. Regardless, they earned the title. Grant Besse totally owned the Tournament with a legendary performance. A short handed hat trick to put the icing on the cake and he did it against Hill-Murray to. When one players beats a team alone like that it's Legendary.

The thread that dirtydangles17 posted about it being fixed has got to be the dumbest posts made in the history of the forums. Benilde did get very lucky with the Eden Prairie and Duluth East upsets but they still beat Minnetonka 5-1, Edina 3-2, and Hill 5-1 with Besse getting all 5 goals, capping off a very emotional story that MN high school hockey wont ever forget.

Agree 100% on all counts!

And a question: Was BSM the first unseeded team to ever win it? (since the seeding process began).

That they were.

In 6 years of seeding, the tourney has been won by 1 1-seed, 3 2-seeds, 1 4-seed, and now one unseeded team.

To answer this question, Benilde is the first unseeded team to win a State Title since seeding began. I believe 2007 was the first state tournament that was seeded.

2007 - #2 Roseau
2008 - #4 Hill-Murray
2009 - #2 Eden Prairie
2010 - #2 Edina
2011 - #1 Eden Prairie
2012 - Unseeded BSM (I wish it could have been my Pioneers!)

BSM would have flat out thumped EP as their best players were hurt. Maybe with EP's top line intact it would have been a game.
