Mr. Dangleberry, I thought this might be a good opportunity for some kids to play Tier I hockey.

we have tier 1 calibre right here in Minny. just move to district 6. I'm sure you could afford it if you are able to spend the $$ on tier 1.

I don`t know where you get your info from Goalie but none of the Minnesota kids that played at Stover last year were billetted. We should expect more from the AAA and Tier 1 expert.

Irish thanks for the post, always great to give a Minnesota player a chance to play tier 1 hockey (the way the rest of the country does it).

All practices were on wknds - 6 hrs (2 Sat, 1 Sun). Leave Sat morning & come back Sun afternoon. Tournaments were spread throughout Midwest (2 in Chicago, Dallas, St. Louis, Denver, KC & Nashville. The program cost was similar to the Fire program. Obviously a larger price tag on traveling expenses which is to be expected going in to it. It is a big commitment & not for everybody. There are plenty of pros & cons but don't rip on it because it's not MN hockey. It is what it is - TIER 1 HOCKEY....no regrets

Great point playing in D6. Not to argue your point. How would some of the top D6 teams do against Tier I teams?

Remember: Hockey is a marathon not sprint.

SSM is a top level team/not an average or weak team. Just to keep things in perspective.

Forgot about the 4-2 whitewashing of Wayzata early in the year? Best playeron the ice was a Wayzata kid. Game later in year had best player injured with about 11-12 skaters. Point made lol.

Sounds like he had an off game (4-2 loss), then one more goal with out him (8-3 loss). Hmm, thats strange.

SSM is one of the top TIER 1 teams in the country. And they still think enough of weak/ancient Mn hockey to play in the Maroon and Gold B antam league. Looking @ the SSM web they beat alot of TIER 1 teams just as bad. I think Breck beat SSM varsity last year.

A waters.

Rosemount Bantam A's were a top 10 team this season with some vsery high end 96 players (Gillette) and they skated to a 4-3 decision with the Russel Stover 97's (27th ranked Tier 1 squad.)

Also, the 29th ranked 97AAA Carolina Hurricanes came to test themselves against Minnesota 1996 heavy Bantam A teams and did quite well, posting wins over State Tournament teams like EGF (6-1 Carolina win), Moorhead (2-0 Carolina win), to go along with a 3-2 win over top ranked Sibley and a shutoit (2-0) of Chaska.

Other Tier 1 97 AAA teams who came to Minnesota to test themaelves against the older Minnesota Bantam A teams include the Thunder Bay 97s , who went 5-1 against some if the Minnesita Bantam A teams, beating WBL 1-0, Duluth East 6-2, Blaine 6-1, Tonka 2-1, Stillwater 9-2 and the onlyvloss being 3-2 to Wayzata.

Also the 44th rankes Pembina Valley Hawks 97 AAA team went 11-3 ,against some of Minnesotaa best Bantam A squads with blowout wins over Andover (6-0), TRF (7-1), Woodbury (9-5), Brainerd (9-0) Lakeville North (4-0), EGF (5-2), Rosemount (6-3), Grand Rapids (8-2), Warroad (6-2), Hermantown (6-5). Losses came in OT to Farmington, to OMG and a narrow 4-2 loss to State Champ Edina.

Russel Stover, Thunder Bay, Carolina and Pembina Valley might not be the Tier 1 powerhouse that Shattuck is, but they were more than capable of taking care of business against the top Bantam A teama in the State.

Going the other way, looking at top Minnesota teams leaving the staye.

Minneapolis was a top 25 Minnesota Bantam A team, but lost 6-5 to the 125th ranked Aa team - the 97 AA Houston Wild. They also lost 4-2 to the 79th ranked Chigago Hawks 97 AA CSDL team and skated to a 3-3 tie with the Dearborne (michigan) 97 AA team. Not all bad though, as the Strom did beat the Romeoville 97 AA team 4-1 and poated a 1-0 win over the Philadelphia 97s

Seems like hockey outside the state is thriving when younger mid-to-low ranked AA and AAA teams enjoy the advantage over top Minnesota Bantam A teams.

Seems to be comparing apples to oranges though considering that all these MN Bantam teams are community based. If MN had more Tier 1 options I would think many of the top association players would be pooling together on the same team (or at least consolidating significantly more than they do now.) The fact that MN has many community based teams that could compete on the Tier 1 level is a testament in and of itself regarding the strength of MN hockey. I'm not claiming one is better than the other, but you're trying to compare two very different situations.

Icehornet is right on. MN is still the leader in high school hockey. As far as AA or AAA teams go it is sad that there isn't more choices.

Looks like the SSM prep team finds better competition (on average) with MN HS teams, if you compare scores against other Tier 1(many blowouts) teams the last few years.

not making any compariaon. Just quoting scores and noting that the quality of AA teams and mid level AAA is at least on par with Minnesotas highest levels.

Everybkdy knows Minnesota hockey ia strong. Looking at inter- bantam games this year it seems hockey is just as strong (at least atthe higjer levels). Thats a good thing
Borh modela work very well, which bodes well for hockey in the USA

I don't really think Bantams tells the whole story of Tier I in the rest of the country versus association hockey in Minnesota unless you are only talking about Bantams.

As you mention, Edina had the state champions for Minnesota Bantams. Worth mentioning that a few players that could have played on that team played HS hockey this past season.

It stands to reason that when most of the top players in a populated area like St. Louis or Dallas or Raleigh-Durham get together it will result in a strong team. Edina, pop. 45,000, has more kids to choose from than almost every other Minnesota association.

I've come to realize people see what they want to see.

So what would be interesting would be to have some Pee-wee teams come up here to play us. Maybe end of the year we should put together District allstar teams. I have a feeling that would be in our favor.
