Seeds

Post by Sue's a girls name »

Seeds came in for 8AA yesterday - I think this was the last section.

1 - North Wright County
2 - Roseau
3 - Sartell/Sauk Rapids
4 - Bemidji
5 - St. Cloud
6 - River Lakes
7 - Moorhead
8 - Brainerd/Little Falls

These matched QRF, EXCEPT for the 4-5 seeds. I find it interesting that Bemidji ended up ahead of St. Cloud, even though St. Cloud beat Bemidji head to head.

If they had done QRF, like a lot of sports, when two schools are close in QRF, the QRF is thrown out and who won the head to head is put in and winner goes up.

Tough for St. Cloud to have to drive up to Bemidji to play a team they lead in QRF and beat in the regular season. I know record doesn't matter but they also had a better record.

I guess they get the chance to prove they are better, but based on regular season results, they should have had that chance at home.

1) Consider head-to-head
2) Common opponents (score diff if similar W/L/T results)
3) Strength of schedule & overall record
4) Other accomplishments and/or extenuating circumstances faced
(Computerized rankings were rarely, if ever, discussed)

Coaches rank every team but their own, usually high and low ranks are thrown out as to not skew the average.

Coaches usually were able to first give a couple minute high-level summary of their season and where they see their team falling.
So, head-to-head and common opponents performance are more important than the KRACH components of #3 record and SOS. I suppose that KRACH partially applies to #2, but doesn't explicitly apply to #1. I imagine #4 would include recent record (i.e., who is playing the best right now) and missing players for certain games, also items which KRACH does not address.

P.S. I like KRACH, but it's not perfect and doesn't do it all.
I am guessing Bemidji had a strength of schedule argument and maybe(?) results vs common opponents?
