Question about buying state tourney tickets

Post by GPGT »

How does it work? This the first state tourney I will have attended in a lloooooonnng time and it was to watch duluth marshall in 2005 so it wasnt hard to get tickets being singleA .. is AA general seating as well or are seats assigned? And can I order tickets to avoid the worst part of the tourney? (Waiting in lines a mile long )

State Tournament tickets

Post by stpaul »

AA "season" tickets (all 11 games) are sold out and have a 2 year waiting list. All AA seats are reserved assigned seats. No GA. The only option for single sessions at the Xcel is to wait in line for them to sell what's left 1 hour before each session.

The better options are to know someone who can get them at the schools when they are sold there or from a scalper. Scalping prices are usually not that bad.

There are season tickets for AA, but I'm sure it's too late to get any for this season. (If you want to get on the waiting list for future seasons, go here: http://www.mshsl.org/mshsl/ticketinfo.asp?page=3 )

AA seating is assigned, though enforcement is hit-or-miss. Some of the attendants rigidly demand you sit in the proper seat, while others don't care. (Unless you are an adolescent boy, you will probably want to sit elsewhere if you get assigned to Section 216.)

One of the better options for getting tickets is through a participating school--they will sell them the week of the tournament. While that won't get you tickets to anything other than that team's games, if you go early in the week, you'll get a pretty good seat.

Beyond that, you've got things like scalpers, StubHub, and this message board's "buy/sell tickets" forum, where you might be able to buy tickets. Otherwise, you will probably be waiting in lines. I did that for a few years, and while the line can look frighteningly long, it does move pretty quickly. The earlier you get in line, the more likely you are to get a better seat--I was everywhere from club level to the lower bowl to the last row of the upper deck. It's very hit-or-miss, but as long as you're in line, you should get a seat without too much trouble.

So if you wait in line, you get tickets for the session, correct ( 2 games ) ?

and if so, when would you suggest being in line? If the games at 5, tix on sale at 4, Im guessing in line at 3?

If you go the route of picking up tix from a participating school, they usually get alloted a section or 1/2 sec in the lower deck(mainly band/students)and a section or more in upper deck for each game. What they don't sell I believe are some of what is sold an hr before games. Tickets go on sale the Mon/Tues that week at the schools.

Games/sessions start at 11am and 6pm.

I've gone the route of getting tix from a school in the tourney in the past. They only give you a ticket to their first session on Thurs. Then towards end of game (if they win) they make announcement as to what time they go onsale Friday (session is at 6pm, usually 2pm) and you have a "voucher" to go and pick up tickets at that time.

I put in for AA tix two years ago and so this year I'm center ice upper deck.

I think me and the wifey will take a shot at just waiting in line.. Seems like the easiest route... So for the 1/4 finals.. ( were hoping East or Rapids makes it ) say section 7 winner plays at 11.. Tickets go on sale at 10 on Thursday, or if its a night game they will start selling at 6?

Also , almost just as important, any recommendations on hotels that are in walking distance? I know the Holiday inn across the street is full , and looking for a few other options.. So far the Super 8 in Roseville looks descent, but is probably a 10 minute drive away

Afternoon session: would start selling at 10
Evening session: would start selling at 5 (first game is at 6)

As per your question about when to get in line, an hour before they start selling would probably get you toward the front of the line. Unless you really care about the seat, I don't think you need to be there that early (though it's been a few years since I went this route, so my memory may be foggy).

State Tournament

Post by stpaul »

Roseville is more like 20-25 minutes and you'll have to hassle with parking and getting out of the ramps afterward.

If you don't mind paying a little more, the Doubletree and Embassy Suites in downtown SP are nice. You can walk and won't have to pay for parking. If it's cold you can walk through the Skyways. Embassy has a nice breakfast included. Both are Hilton hotels and seem to have the same price.

If you want to have the full State Tourney experience stay downtown. There's now a bunch of great bars and restaurants. You can mingle with other hockey families and fans.

Reliving this again, I remember how crazy it actually is down there about this time.. Getting excited already!!!

true.. Mapquest said 10 miles/15 minutes, but understand what your saying. Only reason we were planning on crashing there is because the room would only be $47 / night .. Not the classiest joint, but then again, not blowing a good chunk of the tax refund either lol .. Ill check out the Doubletree and embassy, and if anyone has more suggestions on descent priced hotels in walking distance , let me know , Thank you!!
