usa national team for worlds did not include HAnnah Brandt

28 players 25 + 3 goalies for World tryouts.

HAnnah was not on that list..does that mean she has no shot at the 2014 USA olympic team?

anyone know how all that works in womens amateur hockey?

Hard to believe there's a 15 year old on the list. She must be something.

My understanding is that this camp will be used to determine the USA team's roster for the IIHF World Championship which will take place in April. The Olympic team will have a separate tryout process and will likely include many or all of the chosen IIHF players plus select others including college players who will be "centralized" for a months-long tryout process. So it's still possible that Hannah Brandt (and others who were not named for the upcoming IIHF Worlds) will get an Olympic Team tryout later on. Currently she's the second leading scorer in the entire country - with only Amanda Kessel ahead of her - so it's a mystery to me why she wouldn't be a leading candidate for both the IIHF Worlds AND the Olympic Team. Makes you wonder what a freshman has to do?

I've seen her play a few times as a U18 and there is no doubt she's the real deal. The question will be, does she have the maturity and experience to move up and hold her own against the best players (regardless of age) in the world? They are giving her a look so they must believe she at least has the potential. My guess is that she probably won't make it this time around but she will in 2018 (as will Brandt).

Agreed, she is the real deal. I watched her play in the USA/Canada series at the Super Rink back in August. She had 2 of the 9 goals that Team USA scored.

Leave it to the great minds of USA hockey like Ben Smith to pick a team without a pure scorer like Hannah Brandt. Of course he might be the only coach in US history that could come in 3rd in a two team tournament.

Please take off your Minnesota glasses, there are many talented players all over the country, especially those playing in a Tier 1 program and or East coast prep schools.

Just my regular glasses on, this is a bit of an eye popping list, for some of the next generation players missing. Unless a bunch opted out, which I have no clue on.

Now with my maroon glasses on, they are nuts. Before you jump on me for my provincialism, I have seen many prep and tier one teams play in person. I even watched many of the older players at the try outs when they were in Blaine. Maybe they thought we are part of Canada.
