District 10 Advanced 15's

Just curious if anyone was up there and if anyone else stood out besides Austin Long? Any Goalies stand out?

District 3 tryouts are a little crazy. I did not count but there must be around 50 kids on the ice scrimmaging. The defense players get a lot more playing time than forwards. There are a lot of Wayzata kids there and I would guess they are almost 25% of the kids trying out since we have both AA and A players attending.

some forwards that stood out are not surprising - meyers, huff, senden. forwards did not get much ice time.

sorenson is not trying out so not sure if he was guaranteed a spot for the next session. would assume sorenson is a lock for the d3 team. kelly from maple grove at defense is playing well but that is not a surprise. the blake and benilde kids stood out on defense last night.

not a lot of goalies trying out. looked like only 3 goalies. no AA goalies.

Wow

I heard there was 10 goalies that tried out for District 10. There was also around 50 skaters. Should be interesting on how they select them. I am guessing they already have a good idea who they are going to select.

The list of players going on to the second phase was e-mailed yesterday.

I counted 8 goalies on Monday and 9 on Tuesday. Lots of good skaters and goalies on the ice.

PM me if there is someone in particular you want to check on...

District 3 is down to 28 skaters. 10 Defense and 18 Forwards. 21 Skaters Cut after 3 days. Not surprising that all the AA players from Wayzata and Osseo made it along with the 3 high school players.

Wrong topic but that is surprising. Why would you think every AA player from Wayzata and OMG are better than the top player or two on some of the single A teams, not Wayzata or OMG? Hey, maybe they are better, I wasn't there, but sounds unusual to me.

I was there and I am a little biased because I don't think the AA kids were better than some of the A kids but I don't want to turn this into a whining session. I trust that the evaluators did a fair job and had an open mind when evaluating the players.

But, it is only human nature to support kids that you know even if it is unintentional.

There were a few forwards that stood out. The two high school kids on defense always played together which seemed a little unfair so not sure why they were split up to give other defense players a chance to play with them.

Glad my kid got a chance to participate. He had a good time. Needs to work harder this summer. Good luck to the d3 kids moving forward.

20 Players so I assume 18 skaters and 2 goalies. So I would also assume 6 D and 12 F.

I think D2 has 5 kids that played varsity last year trying out. Will be a stretch for my 98, but he was excited about it so I paid the $$. He has another year of bantams so maybe this will give him an idea of how hard he needs to work this off-season. Football is 4 mnths away so alot can get done [before football starts] if it's important to HIM !!! Nice thing about this age is the kids and most of the parents are starting to get it.

For those new to the 15s:

There was a kid who did not get selected by his District who made it through to the final 20 who went to New York via a smaller district (some districts don't fill all of their spots, so players from districts with greater participation fill those slots).

This is a very interesting process. My experience following this for a few years has been that 17 or 18 of the final 20 are well deserved...there are always 2-3 surprises.

That being said, I've never once given thought to where they are from as a deciding factor. The kid from Luverne was one of the most impressive players last year...that's what mattered not his zip code.

15s is a good predictor of the future, but not the end all be all.
