2014 YHH Squirtacular

Post by YouthHockeyHub »

YHH and the Bloomington Amateur Hockey Assn. have agreed to partner this winter on the 2014 YHH Squirtacular. Held the same time as the Bloomington Squirt tournament, the Squirtacular should be a great mid-season marker of the top Squirt teams in Minnesota. The tournament will be fully sanctioned by MNH/USAH.

The Bloomington Tourney always fills fast. We expect it to be sold out the same day registration opens (this Friday, June 14).

To Register a team or teams: http://www.bloomingtonhockey.com

Should be a great event.

Maybe you should let the winner of the MN Made Super Squirts play in the tournament, it maybe interesting

Our A bracket is filling up nicely (12 of 16 already in), our B bracket is at 11 and our C is almost full (7 of 8).

Make sure you get your Tourney person on the ball and get your registration done ASAP. We suspect a big rush the next couple weeks.

So (with gate fee) basically a winter association based squirt tourney for $1,395.... wow  .... obviously some will pay that but still, wow (that hefty price tag is probably why it didn't sell out the first day..... this isn't AAA hockey.... )

I'm sure it will be worth it ! In FL our Assc pays for 4 tourny for all teams so it wouldn't matter if it is a cool event. We have had teams pay close to that to go to Hudsen & River Falls tournys.

I guess we will see what the market bears. Based on who is in and who has yet to register a team, my senses say that price or demand is not an issue.

These numbers do not reflect Bloomington teams and three large associations that historically play every year that have multiple entrants. My notice on this board was a nudge to associations for them to get them in because we will be full within 10 days.

The Squirtacular will also announce a Pin Trading element to our event...which will be especially popular for teams going to Fargo and not going to Fargo. The A,B, and C champions will each receive a Squirtacular Pin.

Like I said, I am SURE there will be some that pay it, probably plenty to field a full event.... but still seems like a hefty price.... Just don't understand why it needs to be so expensive though at the association level.... I've been to really good tourneys for $500 with no gate fee.... just sayin.....

OG, You sure about River Falls, been to many tourneys there the most I have ever seen for a winter association tourney is $625 (and that was last year) with no gate fee..... Cannot comment historically on Hudson but last years Squirt A tourney was $650 with no gate fee...

Again I am not disputing you will field a tourney with ample quality teams just not sure why the need to price some teams out......

None taken.... just aqsking the people in charge of this tourney what makes it so extra special that you are getting $700 MORE bang for your buck is all, I mean at the end of the day after you pull away the smoke and mirrors it's $1,350 for a 3 game guarantee against associations (most of whom these teams already play anyway)..... regardless of the "competition" that just seems out of whack to me, but maybe I am alone in that view :? :?:

Someone told me today that someone came on here and said that the A and C brackets are full. This is not true, there are still unpaid spots in A and C. I think he misunderstood what we meant.

We said that we have received plenty of registrations (for A and C to make it full).

But what wasn't communicated properly is that there are two precedents that override a full tournament:

1. Associations that pay first.
2. Associations that enter 2 or more teams.

We currently need B teams to fill the field, so if you just entered just an A team or just a C team, please encourage your association to enter a B team.

Because of the Pin Trading at the tournament, this is a great way to send a team that isn't going to Fargo to this event as an alternative.

Small update on the tournament:

A Pool has exceeded capacity...we plan on making a larger than normal field this year.

B Pool is 1-2 spots short (depending on who you ask on the Board...haha). Once registration at associations is complete, we expect those spots to fill fast. We will cap that field at 16.

C Pool is full

Thanks to all of the associations that have signed up again and all of the new associations that have added this tournament to their list.

If you are signed up, start working on your pin designs...should be fun.

Only open to MN teams or are you open to teams from out of state?

The tournament is open to all USAH sanctioned teams.

Please note: because of MNH birth year rules, your 2003 Squirt teams will be playing against some post July 2002 birth year kids (our Squirt birthday cutoff is July 2002 to July 2004). Canadian teams are also eligible.

We'd love to have Non-Minnesota teams come and enjoy great hockey in a great rink (where 1980 US Olympic team trained), near Mall of America, MN Wild vs. Edmonton on Saturday Night, Minnesota vs. Ohio State in D1 Men's Hockey, and several great High School games to attend as well).

YHH would also be happy to assist out of state teams with other games on professionally groomed outdoor rinks as well.

Hope that helps.

Greed

Post by iseepalms »

Seems like greed is taking over hockey. Anyone can play AAA hockey in the summer if you want and now tournaments costing $1350, what next $2500 and two tickets to a wild game. The associations that pay that kind of money are the one's that have money. Someone mentioned that it will be the same teams all the time and that will force out the smaller associations which I think this is what it is all about.

Disagree. It's hockey capitalism at its finest.

Time and the market will tell if there will be a follow up to the 2014 Squirtacular. I suspect if Tony and company deliver on the goods, we can expect more bigger better in 2015.
