Girls HP 14/15 - what districts are participating?

Post by Lace'emUp »

I’m curious to know what other districts are running the girls version of the HP 14/15 program this fall. It’s a pilot program for the girls this year, so district are not required to do it by MN Hockey. I know that D3 and D10 are running the program within their districts, and there’s a festival planned up at Anoka the same weekend the boys are at Braemar. If a festival is planned, one would think you’d have at least 4 districts participating.

Was told D6 did not get enough interest. Not sure how that was determined.

District 5 will have two HP 14/15 Teams at the Festival. I believe District 10 will field two teams also.

Anyone seen a schedule?

With all the talent in D6, I'm surprised there was no interest. My friend over in D2 has heard nothing either, which is also surprising with many good players over there too. That leaves D8 as the last district in question. I'm guessing there's no interest in the outstate districts due to numbers, travel, and ice availability.

D3 and D10 will also have two teams (each). They will take the pool of 30 skaters and 4 goalies and split equally. As for schedule, D3 has posted some times (3 games for each team), but nothing posted for D10. Games are scheduled at various times throughout the day on Sat 9/28 and Sun 9/29. Again, all games at Anoka.

Is there anything on the Mn Hockey web site? If not I would contact the Program managers.

Nothing but the boys info on the MN Hockey website - probably due to it being a pilot program this year. I tried to contact MN Hockey a couple of times over the last couple months, and no response. Thus, I've come to the real source for all info, the forum!

I believe Mike MacMillan is the overall program manager and possibly Nancy Wefler(?). There contact numbers should be on the Mn Site under the HP 15 program for the girls. They should have the information.

Gold D16 (7?) vs Gray D3 (0)
Gold D16 (8?) vs Green D5 (1)

They stopped putting scores on the board for the Gold team in each game. Would love to see the girls play the Navy D10 team again. They beat them the second half and I know no one else did that. Fun weekend to watch the teams play.

Not likely that D16 Gold would be able to beat the D10 Navy team even if they played them several more times. Goalie in the 2nd half was screened on the 1 and only goal she gave up all weekend.

With the level of talent on all the teams this weekend, it would have been interesting to see them play Saturday and then mix up all the teams Sunday to see how the girls react.

In regard to scores, I know there were a few that got out of hand, and I wasn't quite sure of the final score since they stopped posting them at the arena.

Unfortunately, D16 practiced only one time as a team. Thus, I don't know if Gold would have been able to beat Navy, or even Red this weekend (vs Red would have been close). BUT, if Gold was given the chance to practice for the full 3 weeks like the D10 teams did, IMO, D16 would give Navy a solid run for their money, and would have the advantage versus Red.

In the end, all the girls and teams gave their best efforts. It was fun to watch the best from each district show up. It's too bad that the other districts decided not to participate. It would have enhanced the experience even further.

Likely or not would have been fun to watch them play again. But then again D10 Navy did not score on the D16 team in the second half. It was still a great weekend to watch the talent from the state. Not sure if anyone but the D16 team had a first year 12U goalie playing.

Does anyone know if this program will continue and if it was well received around the state? It is too bad that so many girls were not able to tryout because of Fall sports. I know D16 had about 8 players that are solid that did not tryout or play in the weekend games and I am sure the same happened in the city area. Then again we all know that the best athletes play multiple sports.

One sugestion that I had after the weekend was if the games are just for fun and the players are playing hard, they should reset the score after each half to give the gaolies a clean slate to work with. Just a thought.
