Unbeaten/Untied teams

Post by hockeydad »

Who will be the last team to have a perfect record?

The first games were played just three weeks ago today, and there are just 14 teams remaining who are unbeaten and untied. Five are in Class AA and nine are in Class A.

White Bear Lake
Hill-Murray
Eden Prairie
Grand Rapids
Elk River/Zimmerman
Mankato West
Luverne
Willmar
Minnehaha Academy
St. Paul Academy
St. Cloud Cathedral
Alexandria
Eveleth/Gilbert
East Grand Forks

Edit... two of the teams were missing from the original post... I've corrected it.

Who was it last year?

Might be ignoring better odds for single A teams I don't know, but....Hill.

Gonna lose at least 2 of the AA teams in the next week at the Edina Classic. Best that field has been in a while (Edina, Elk, EP, Rapids)

For AA I'd say Hill Murray is the last team without a loss.

I believe they'll lose before one of the A teams which doesn't have as difficult a schedule, but I don't have a good guess as to which of the A teams will be last standing.

Last year the last undefeated untied was East Grand Forks, I believe.

With their upcoming games this weekend, that might be hard to repeat.

But it would be great if they do.
What is a Green Wave anyway?

They may not be the best of the remaining AA teams, but White Bear has by far the weakest schedule. Their toughest game left in December is against Forest Lake tonight.

The SEC has enough decent teams that someone could trip them up, but they're in pretty good shape. Their first real tough game is against Edina on 1/4.

I don't think EGF has a chance this year. They play Blaine, Breck, Bemidji, and then Warroad. If they weather that stretch and stay unbeaten, they are REALLY good.

Blaine is also undefeated and if they beat EGF this week they will probably have a solid run of staying unbeaten.

I think both Hill Murray and Blaine will be undefeated going into the holiday tournaments (Schwan Cup and Sports Authority). I guess Blaine could win Sports Authority and Hill Murray could win the Schwan Cup.

Maybe we'll have a match of undefeated teams on February 5!

The only reasonable picks in this group are Luverne or WBL, with EGF being close behind. Predicting teams to get out of holiday tournaments unblemished is tough. There isn't a game on Luverne's schedule you can point to as one you'd predict them to lose.

According to minnesota-scores.net, Blaine lost to Centennial on Dec. 7. I see from the hockey hub that this is not correct, so add Blaine to the list.

The updated list:

Hill-Murray
Blaine
Eden Prairie
Grand Rapids
Elk River/Zimmerman
Mankato West
Luverne
Minnehaha Academy
St. Cloud Cathedral
Alexandria
Eveleth/Gilbert
East Grand Forks

AA: Elk River and Eden Prairie play in the Edina Classic and EP in the SA Holiday Classic as well while Hill plays in the Schwan Cup. It's possible, but I wouldn't predict any AA teams to be undefeated after Dec 28 at this point.
A: Alex hosts SCC today, so one of them will be off the list. If they win, they play Moorhead next and have a pretty good holiday tourney. EGF plays Breck today. If they can get by Breck, I don't see them losing for a very long time. Luverne plays a holiday tourney and Wilmar in January. West will probably lose to EGF over the holidays. Cathedral should win their holiday tourney and lose to EGF Jan 3.

My picks:
AA: Hill-Murray
A: East Grand Forks
Overall: East Grand Forks

I could see EGF losing before the end of the year.

Contrary to the great metro minds, Warroad and Bemidji could test them, as well as those in their tournament.

Breck is not their only hurdle.

Something alwaiys amazes me.
