Schwans Gold Division

Post by blueblood »

Who will get relegated to Silver next year?

Prior Lake - 1 and done in the Gold?
East - karl's Hounds?
STA - HSHW's Cadets?
Breck - can the Mustang's hang with the big boys?

Even though I thought Prior Lake would beat Minnetonka, I think they'll lose out and be in the Silver next year.

What I'm more curious about than anything is what the team that gets relegated to Silver does next year. There seems to be this trend of the 0-3 teams leaving for different tournaments. Holy Angels and East are the only teams that I have stuck around. Some have even left without going 0-3.

Of the 8 Gold Division teams from 2005, only 3 are still competing in the Schwan Cup. East is in Gold, Roseville in Silver and Holy Angels in Bronze.

Well, I'm glad some of them left then because it's fun to see Edina, Hill-Murray, and Minnetonka play each year.

The Schwan's Cup has 4 tournaments. No reason for them to leave Schwan's all together.
-Blaine went 0-3 last year. Instead of playing in the Silver Division this year, they are playing in St Louis Park.
-Holy Angels went 0-3 two years ago and played in Silver Division last year.
-Breck went 0-3 three years ago, played in Silver Division two years ago, went 3-0 and are in back in Gold.
-WBL went 1-2 three years ago (beat Breck) and have not played in a holiday tournament since.

I just think it's interesting. It's a great tournament with the opportunity to play at a nice venue. Could have a couple amazing tournaments. Imagine if everyone who'd been in the Schwan's Cup was still in one of the tournaments.

As to the question at hand. My vote is for the loser of the PL/DE game. Honestly not sure who it'll be. We'll see in a couple hours 8)

Breck 5, STA 4 in OT.

Great game to watch, with lots of back-and-forth action, especially when the top two lines were on the ice. No team had a lead of more than one goal, and before the OT, all of those leads were very short-lived. STA had a large edge in shots, but quality chances were probably close to even until an STA power play near the end, when they put on a ton of pressure. Breck somehow survived that, and Husband powered in for the game-winner on an impressive individual effort.

It'll be Breck vs. DE in the 5th place game, and STA vs. Prior Lake in the toilet bowl.

Final 5-3
Goals for tonka in the 3rd Nelson and Schuldt
Goals for Hill in the 3rd Mills and french on a empty net.
Joey anderson had 4 points for hill.
Tonka made a good push in the 3rd starting right away with a goal to cut the lead to one only a minute and a half into the period. HM then got a goal to go up 2 again before Tonka scored with about 4 minutes left and had a few chances to tie it before the empty net goal

After 1
Burnsville 1
Edina 0
Cole Borchardt with the goal coming on the Powerplay.
It has been a fast paced game with the teams racing back and forth from end to end.
It has been very physical especially with edina. Boeser has taking 2 or 3 big hits that have sent him sprawling. 2 by nanne who seems to have him on an assignment and if not for nanne I would imagine Boeser would have had some high quality chances that could have led to goals as Nanne did a good job stopping him. He did have a hit on Boeser that looked like something you would see from keith ballard.
Edina has had some good momentum but then take a penalty and lose it all. They need to stay out of the box. There looking a little scrambled in there zone right now too.
Burnsville I would say has had more chances and has played better. There first line with Boeser and Borchardt has looked very good. There Powerplay is very dangerous, they have been doing a great job moving the puck around and getting chances.
Edina has had 3 penalties while Bville has had one but it was off setting with an Edina one
Very exciting game so far

after 2 It is 3-0 for Burnsville
The first goal of the period came from Otto who had a nice one timer from up high in the zone which all started from a nice rush from defensemen Ahcan who I think is really talented. He likes to jump up in on offense and for a little guy (listed 5'7") he plays a physical style.
The 2nd goal came on the powerplay and was scored by Borchardt. Basically the same goal he had in the first which was off a rebound where he had a wide open net.
Lubbesmeyer is winning the battle in Net tonight and I think that is the difference. Edina had 21 shots that period, many of which were very high quality chances and some I was shocked to not see in the back of the net. He is playing very well tonight
While Rohkohl has played well but he is giving up too many rebounds, which has led to two goals, and could be more if not for the defense clearing the puck out.
From the start of the period to the 3rd goal which was around 5 min left in the period, it was as close to domination in favor of edina. There one slip up in that time frame was the 2nd goal but besides that they had Burnsville bottled up for about 8-10 minutes. The announcer described it as edina being on the powerplay.
Each team had one powerplay both were on rushes to the front of the net where they hooked or slashed so a good penalty to take compared to those in the 1st period. But Burnsville's PP continues to look good while edina's Penalty Kill has looked disorganized so It came as no surprise to see them score another PP goal
