Yes it's real. Same organization runs NAPS AAA tournamanents. Midwest is in Chicago as well as events in Bufalo and Boston. Players can register for these as individuals or as a team. They are used as scouting events for the world team as I understand.mackjogger wrote:http://www.legacyglobalsports.com/page/ ... 2-about-us
I registered my O2 Goalie to play last year in Chicago as our family lives there. He was the only MN player in the tournament at any age level according to the Legacy GS guy from Detroit that runs the NAPS tournaments. He played on a team with kids from Belle Tire and Chicago Fury, goalie partner was from Victory Honda. 02 level was checking last year, looks like this year they have relegated checking to Bantam ages only. Tournament was well organized but reffing was terrible as they struggled with checking at 02 level. Some allowed it while others still called it as not allowed, very inconsistent. Hockey play was good and very physical. Against a team that called themselves the Canadian Rhino, the game was called with 4 min left in the 3rd us up 5-2 after four all out fights left the CA without enough players to continue. CA coach said after this was his kids first experience with checking.
Consequently my son played well in the tournament but no invite to the World Selects team (not to say we would have gone nor did we do it for that reason). Did it to play some hockey in front of family for Grandmas/Grandpas, Aunt/Uncles/Cousins to attend. He enjoyed having a cheering section at the games. We did receive an inquiry to join a team in the Boston or Buffalo event in need of a goalie which we declined (enough hockey at home in MN and not enough $$ in the pockets

Thanks for the reply, good info....scouting 02's? for world event? or 01's or 00's for that matter....isn't that a bit premature? Unless you have $$$ to burn, what is benefit of having a 11,12,13 yr old participate? Gotta believe they are getting wealthy parents more than top players. maybe enough of both to draw from in the states, but world invite at those ages seems a bit crazy.CHI-TOWN HOCKEYDAD wrote:Yes it's real. Looks like fun if you have the money to burn. I can tell you my 13-year-old won't be playing in it this year. I mean, it sounds fun to go play in Chicago, but you can't use points for the hotels--must pay full price and probably a jacked up rate at that. For the money, my kid can play in a camp closer to home for more ice time. Probably more than one. So what's the appeal here? Don't get me wrong--we have fun playing AAA in the summer--it's fun meeting and playing with different people and playing in different arenas, but I don't need to leave MN to do that. Not at this age.

I have to agree 100%. Would love to hear the argument for the other side...other than a great experience for the kid if you have $$$$ to burn.boomerang wrote:Looks like fun if you have the money to burn. I only know what the Tournament Director told me. I am speaking of the NAPS Midwest Tournament - May 10-12th in Chicago for clarity. Besides does it matter? The point is that the popularity and/or knowledge of this event is not high with MN as the director recognized in our conversation a week prior to the event.

For even MORE clarity... YES I was referencing Chicago NAPS, and I know for a fact there were quite a few MN players there (just in the Elite levels) and on numerous teams. The Tourney Director is uninformed.CHI-TOWN HOCKEYDAD wrote:I only know what the Tournament Director told me. I am speaking of the NAPS Midwest Tournament - May 10-12th in Chicago for clarity. Does it matter?... Not really, but then you should be careful of making statements with passed on INCORRECT information.

The reason for it's relative "unpopularity" with MN players is that MN has about a BILLION other Tournament options, and this one is smack dab in the middle of their Spring/Summer Teams warmups.

Why go to Europe with this Legacy group when one can go with a local team?
