To read the details in the Cleveland Plain Dealer hydration was becoming a major concern. I guess maybe stop it and continue it on another day would be possible but then you have logistics to deal with. Both coaches agreed with decision.

"I know my boys would have kept playing. I know their boys would have kept on playing too, but, at some point the adults have to step in" said St. Ignatius coach Pat O'Rourke. Northview coach Mike Jones said he did not think it would be appropriate to continue as several players on both teams were dealing with cramps and struggling to stay hydrated.

I'd have to defer to people actually there and seeing the kids. If the coaches or trainers are showing concern for safety I think you have to stop.

Wasn't their a title game here awhile back with a similar scenario, but the teams called a break, and came back the next day ?

I might be the only one that thinks this was the right call..... It's dangerous to keep playing after all of that time, and If both coaches and the refs agreed then obviously it's the right call for that particular game.

If you go to 7 OT's the only way you can really win is by some fluke goal.... The players should be happy that they are getting a state championship rather than 2nd place.

Seven 8 minutes overtimes really isnt that much.

Were they really all 8-minute OT's? The Tonka-LN girls state semi-final game last year went 6 OT's, but this was a mix of 8- and 17-minute OT's. That game lasted 113 minutes (so longer than the Ohio game could have lasted), if I recall and both teams had to play games the next day. And if I further recall, both teams won the next day. Yes, I realize that the boys game is different than the girls and that a semi-final game is required to have a winner advance to the championship game, but those girls did OK. Of course, they're from Minnesota, not Ohio.
