Jack Sadek to Gophers

Post by Sats81 »

LN to be Sr d-man Jack Sadek commits to the gophers. Not surprising after his performance at model camp. Congrats to a kid with a really nice upside who skates very very well. Cousin of Brady Skjei, father Brett was gopher QB in 80s.

With that commitment it marks 6th player for LNs team next yr to be committed to a D1. I caught a lot of flak on here back in Jan, before they had anyone committed when I said they have at least 7 kids who I thought could play D1.

Congrats to Jack.

Also 4 of the 10 likely Mr. Hockey candidates.

Also the only two Minnesota NHL draftwatch kids.

This is a powerhouse team, especially with the addition of Edquist.

It will be interesting to watch the Team SE vs Team SW Elite League games

Then, the Panthers have got to dig down deep to see if they can find a way to beat Edina in early December at home. That would sure then make the rest of the season and the March setup more interesting.

Are these homegrown LN players, or transfers-in from various youth associations?

5 of the 6 commits so far grew up in and played youth hockey in Lakeville. The other player grew up in Lakeville.

0ver the past 5 years the number of kids who played youth hockey in Lakeville and have moved on to d1 rivals most any community other than edina. The association must be doing something right.

First, a huge congratulations to Jack and his family, committing to the University of Minnesota!!!!! One of the top tiered programs in the country.....

IN MY OPINION, the Gophers are going away from tough, hard nosed, defensemen and moving towards fleet skating, puck handling D. I think it showed in the playoffs last year when the Gophs had struggles against those teams with big strong forwards who chased the puck into the corners and put the body on the D. I kind of see these exact traits with the 2 LN defensemen. Big kids who can skate, shoot the puck and pass the puck but struggled attempting to move players out of the front of the net and when they were checked and had to muck it up along the boards.

Should truly be an interesting year for Lakeville North since with this many D1 commitments, there will be a TON of pressure on the Coach and players.......... anything but an undefeated, state championship season would look to be a disappointment........ That is a lot of pressure....

Really? So if they don't go undefeated and win the tourney it looks to be a disappointing season!

I think Edina will have a lot to say about the state championship as they are indeed the defending back to back state champs. Plus, when was the last time a AA team went through entire season and won the tourney undefeated? I believe '93 Jefferson did it, and possibly Centennial '04?

Karl, any help on this?

You could maybe calculate that from this list...

http://grhshockey.com/teams/default.asp ... ni+Records

At a quick glance, I only see about 10. I'd have to do a little research to see if there are 5-6 more beyond that. Obviously, a roster from the 1977 team would be extremely helpful. Otherwise, it's difficult to tell who played varsity as a freshman.

Sister Dani is incoming Freshman D at Ohio State.

Brett's dad Bob coached son and rest of Rosemount football to State Championship in 1981.

Pretty certain Bob was gopher QB in 60s as well.
